I like the pictures, but not the backround, what can I do?
Take the child by the hand and move her to another spot in the yard, if she lives close to home. Why not reshoot the photo than spend hours with a computer trying to fix? If not close to home, maybe someone can photoshop for you.

Personally, I don't like the pictures. The focus is soft and the hairs all over the place. The expression on the first one is not very good either.
Go back to a park on a not winding day and pick a better locations, shoot in the portrait mode or on a lower f-stop and blur the background.
Take lots of pictures and focus on the eyes. They need to be sharp, fix the hair as needed during the shoot.
I took the stuff out of the background really quick in PSE. I could have taken out the stuff in the foreground, too but I thought it looked fine after the background stuff was gone. Not sure about the first one, it would take more time for me to edit, the 2nd one only took a minute to eliminate the stuff.
Also, the pic I uploaded looks very grainy because I just downloaded it right from the site. If you want to e-mail me the original I can fix it and send it back, it will look better. KristynDougherty@yahoo.com
Do the post processing for the picture, there are lots of softwares that will boost and highlight the the main subject of your photos by adding a shallow depth of field. Njoy Shooting!!!
How about trying something like this

+1. By far the best suggestion. Also, learn about aperture and focus for this kind of shot too, as Rachel noted.

Best advice you can receive when it comes to remove unwanted items from a picture. 5 minutes post shutter snaps will save your 1/2 hour+ post.

thank you, it's beautiful. maybe someday i can do that too
Just playin ... I took her out of the background .. made a new layer of just her .. then I took the original photo and rendered clouds in both these colors ... making backgrounds is super simple that way
Then I used the smudge tool to bring the ends of her hair back some.
