Though the land all around was devastated during WW II this small vineyard was spared. On a huge flagpole by the edge of the property flew the colors of the Vatican. Neither the Allies or the Axis would touch (bomb) it.
It was used as a hospital for both sides and a refuge for the displaced.
It has a long history with the Catholic Church, the Vatican and The Pope(s).
Some of the grapes are unique. I tried to smuggle some seeds home, but alas they just disappeared.
