Ever see a jet blow smoke rings?

Neither have I. But I did look up and see these contrails while taking a walk today.

What causes that is the wingtip vortices of the aircraft catching a bit of the contrail and pushing it away from the main contrail.

The wingtip vortices thing sounds good, but everyone knows it's just government doublespeak for obfuscating the use of alien technology captured in the Roswell crash. ; )
