Just picked a up a nikon Coolpix p510 at Cosco as a bridge camera to go with my D700 and wow, what a sweet little package. I think I am going to enjoy this one a lot.

I picked up a P500 last summer. Love the zoom without having to change lenses. Great for birds and other critters.

Thats the reason I biught it as I do landscape photography and often run into birds and animals. It really is a great little camera from what I can see.

Is there a comparable Canon to the Nikon P510? I've been using a Canon PowerShot A1000IS for several years and have been really pleased with it.

It's about time to look for an update, though. There are so many models from which to choose...

Glad you like it. I started with a P500 when I moved up from a P&S camera. It has been a great camera for me and I will continue to use it when I go to concerts and stuff so I can use that nice zoom to get me closer to the performer from my seat. They are very nice cameras to have around when you need a long zoom but dont want to carry a big lens, but I do love my DSLR too.

I could not stand the Nikon P510's EVF, just looked too unatural to look through. Is the Canon SX50 any better?

The SX40 and SX50 are very close to the P510 but add a hot shoe for external flash and a fully articulating LCD. SX50 also allows shooting in RAW or RAW+JPG, and has an outlet for a remote release.

I prefer the SX50, but usually use the LCD instead of the EVF due to the problems using the EVF with my glasses.

These were taken with my new 510 with my old shakey hands

the first one iof the bridge is just normal, while the second one showing the base of the bridge is full out. These photos are as shot and unedited.

Do you have better examples perhaps some close ups or some with more color?

While you can't see this house. It is under the wires on the far side of the bridge/ to the right. While these are not very sharp as I was not using a tripod, I was amazed at the distance I was shooting.
