I am an old guy using heavy Canon 7d and L lenses. Anyone out there using a new Sony next and if so what is your opinion.

I have a Sony NEX5R. Neat "little" camera. Can't talk about the NEX7 which has a built in viewfinder but it is above my pay grade (retired) in price. The NEX5R can accept an auxiliary viewfinder ($350) but uses the flash plugin to accommodate it. There is a new NEX6 which has the viewfinder plus a hot shoe but . . .no articulating viewfinder.

I compared the Sony NEX5R with my Canon 50D with slightly better lens and found it. . .to me better. Ken Rockwell, while not fond of the NEX camera mounted a leica lens on it and did not see a dramatic difference. Note: you can buy lens adapters to mount most Nikon, Canon, Sony, Leica prime/zoom lenses that focus to infinity so your collection of lenses will not be obsolete.

Note, for professional shoots I would not show up a Sony NEX as most folks will think it a "point and shoot". Showing up with any DSLR will give impression of professional, however the NEX may do as good or better. Suggestions, Buy one with a 30 day refund and give it a workout. You may be surprised with this little gem's capability if you disallow for it's shortcomings.

It's in my camera bag.

I own the Nex7 and love it. I "only" have the Zeiss 24mm lens, and am currently waiting on the new Zeiss 50mm lens. The camera needs superb (read expensive) lenses to get the maximum benefit from the sensor.
I took it with me on a cruise around Cape Horn. I'm currently pp'ing the pix to make a personal photo book. The photos are exactly what I expected when I put down the cash. The camera is a joy to use, light, relatively small, and highly configurable.
The only problem I encounter is with extended videoing. It overheats and stops, at least at 60fps. I have to check and see if it will happen at 30fps as well. Personally, I don't really care, but my nephew wants me to video his wedding ceremony. The new Nex7n is supposed to fix the problem.

I just got the Nex7 and it is an amazing little camera. Sharp as a tack. Got it at B&H and they included a 20mm lens, case and an SD card. Shot some scenics in RAW with it in NH and they look terrific. Ok, I also used my Nikon D600 too :-)
