Actually, it looks like $1350 more since they extended the rebate on the earlier version until March 30. That seems expensive for that little -s after the AF. :)

Wow! The only way that's going to happen is if I sell my Sigma 50-500mm and I really don't want to do that.

Well, considering the time between the design of the first one and this one, it is more than the "s." Sounds like a whole new optical design.
Nikon are really cranking the prices lately on their lenses. Our local Nikon pricing is heavily marked up over the US prices so I expect this will end up being a bloody expensive lens.
Go to the BH site and open up the 80-400mm in a separate window on your computer. Split-screen the 80-400mm with this new "updated version". That's right! You will now be paying 1350$ more for the SWM. That'S it.
I'll hold my "old" version tighter and save the money. A very disappointing version of an upgrade. Had they made it faster - then maybe.
I've got the old one, will be interesting to see what people think after someone here has used it.
