PS Elements slow to HP Printer

I have a slight problem and am wondering if it's only happening with my setup, or if someone else notices the same effect. I have an HP C5580 printer and I am more than satisfied with the job it does. My complaint is when printing photos from Elements 10 to the HP printer, it takes about a full minute to process the instructions, I.E. size, type of paper, size of paper, etc. before the printer will actually begin printing. The printer does an excellent job with photos and I have no desire to change to a different one. (This is one of the 'last of the breed' that also will print directly ON CD's or DVD's. I do lot of that and don't want to give-up that feature. Just wondering if anyone else may be experiencing a similar scenario? Elements to HP C5580?? The printer responds quickly when printing anything else. Elements seems to be the culprit.

Unless the files are larger than normal I don't see why it would take longer to send the information to the printer than with other .jpg files. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. As a last resort you could call the printer company, but they'll probably tell you to call Adobe. I've never printed directly from Elements. I always save the files to whatever folder they were in originally and then print from there.

Are you printing from the organizer in Elements or the editor workspace? I have had difficulty printing from the editor workspace so I switched over to the organizer and have had good results.

Hello Howdysmom,
Yes, I am printing from the editor space. I rarely use the organizer in Elements.

I have Elements 11 and a HP 8250 printer. I have noticed at times it takes longer for the printer to start, and I do print from Elements. I believe it may be due to the file size, and available memory for you computer/printer setup.

If you are printing from the editor workspace, the printer driver is being "operated"by Elements. Have you checked the "Printer manages colours" or "Photoshop manages colours" box? The latter requires that you use the correct paper colour profile. The printer driver is confirming all of these papameters before it initiates a print. If you want to use the printer driver directly, print from the organiser or from Windows Explorer, or use the printing utility that was supplied with your printer.

Thanks for your input Graham. Actually I prefer printing from Elements 'editor work space', so I guess I'll just have to adjust to being more patient and wait the 60 seconds to print
Meamtime, I will try your suggestions. Much appreciated.

I have an HP All in One...I'm not home and don't remember the series number but it often gives me problems while printing from elements 8 (especially when one of the ink cartridges is low). Like you I liked the job it did printing but I got tired of the headaches. I just bought an Epson Artisian 837. I only mention this becaus you mention printing on CDs and DVD's. My HP doesn't have this feature so I was very happy to get this capability. although disks are going away, I still have a lot of friends that want DVDs with slide shows, etc. and it's nice to have the capability of printing on them. So if you can't resolve your HP issues, you might want to pick one up. If you do want one, don't take too long as I believe they are being retired soon as well.

You're right, reirr! My daughter bought the same Epson you mention. It's a very good printer, and does print to CD's and DVD's. I may have no choice but to pick one up as a backup. I tried to do so with the HP 5580, but they must have become 'wise' to the fact of what it will do and the price is terribly elevated from what was the 'new' price! I've seen them upwards to even $500.00! Someone, who bought them cheap is reaping a big harvest
