Rear Curtain Synch

Earlier today I viewed a U Tube on "rear curtain synch" and I'd like to try it. I looked in my manual for my Canon 5dMkII but found nothing under rear, curtain or synch. First, does anyone know where the instructions are for it and secondly, what experiences have my fellow Hogs had. If possible when replying a picture(s) would be great.
Thanks in advance

I don't have a Canon flash, but have the 5D Mark II and found in my research on line that, apparently it will only work if you have the Canon 580exii connected. Other brands won't work.

The menu for it appears under External Speedlite control and your flash must be connected and on to access it.

Just found this info on dpreview.com Explains what you can do if you don't have the Canon 580exii, but you still have to spend money on Pocket Wizards! http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/post/50158520

I saw that too, but I think they are talking about the 5D not the 5D Mark II. I looked on my Custom Functions and it is not there (5D Mark II).

Not on page 194 for a 5D Mark II. That page addresses batteries.

Instead of trying to find the correct setting in your camera menu, you can simply set the flash for rear curtain synch.

Find the button on the back of your canon flash that shows a capital H with a flash arrow and three little arrows. The three little arrows are the second curtain symbol, so press the button until you get this on your display.

For future reference the capital H is High Speed flash.

Yes, the info is there, however, it only works with the Canon 580exii. I have a Sigma flash EF-530 DG Super and you can not access that info on the camera with this flash attached and on.

Can you change the flash itself as Annie Girl suggested?

Not on my flash, unfortunately. I am going to look in the manual though and see if I am missing something.

I find that the Sigma's manual is a bit hard to understand (not well written and not very clear) so I am going to research it on line.

Found it!! Yes I can set my Sigma for the rear curtain function.

Wow... didn't mean to start a "range war" but thanks Hogs. Still no one coming forward that is or has used it. Need some eperienced users and pix samples.

My bad.... I think it is a Nikkon term. Being a Camonista I should know better

No war here, just trying to help you with information that is useful. Do you have a Canon 580 flash? If not you will have to see if your flash has the capability of setting rear or second curtain.
