This has to do with astrophotography but is a general camera question. Is it possible to link D7000 to laptop while focusing a picture. In other words can it be viewed on laptop while viewing on live view or through view finder.
TIA for any input.

I've tethered my D7000 to my Mac book pro on a number of occasions and was only able to view the shot after it was taken. Was using LR4. If there is and way to do what you are asking, please let me know too.

Great! it looks like a cool interface. There's a lot you can do with it-- or so I've read.

Look at Nikon's Control Pro 2 and Control My Nikon. I ahve Control Pro and yes - you can Live View on your laptop. Look at the sales pitch for Control My Nikon which says it will and also seem to give much more control of the exposure.

The following works on a Macbook Pro and you can view Live on a D5100.

It works for me.

Soforbild (Mac only) supports the D7000. The only awkward thing with Liveview is that you use Sofortbild's Liveview to set up the shot, then have to close that window and take the shot. There's a Liveview button in the upper right of the Sofortbild screen. That opens a second window where you can do all your setting up. You have to click on a Play/Stop toggle button at the upper right of the Liveview window to see what the camera sees. Then you hit it to close the window, and then click on a different button (camera icon) in the upper left of the original screen to actually take the shot. Attached is a shot I took the other day using Sofortbild with a D5000.

You may want to try a free program called digicamcontroller.
I have been trying this out with a D300s and it has live view capabilities and full screen viewing. You can initiate the shot from the camera or the PC. Worth a loook to see if it will suit you.

A few days ago wirelessly linking a camera to an iPad was extensively discussed in UHH here:

I realize you asked about linking to a laptop but if an iPad will serve your purpose the CamRanger is a super, highly rated device. I use one and I'm very pleased with it.
