I'm shooting with a 70-300 VR. I've gotten quite a few pictures that seem to blow out when zoomed close and I'm wondering, is it me or is this the best my lens will do at 300? And no tripod on this shot, I was hanging over a fence! Oh and this is my first foray into Photoshop. What do you think?? Suggestions? Thanks!

You are handholding so your shutter speed will need to be pretty fast. It is hard to tell what is going on in this thumbnail. It would be better if when you post the picture to hit store original so we can see the full size image. Please also post your camera settings.

Ok. I reloaded it again, I thought I clicked "store original" the first time but I guess it didn't work. My setting were: ISO 160, shutter 1/320 at f11 focal length 300 (450)

Your shutter speed should have been fast enough to take care of any camera shake. Also looks like the camera might have focused on the twigs above the dove instead of the dove itself. Next time use spot metering. BTW, who's that young person in your avatar?

Hmm.. Thanks, I'll check. I thought I had it focused on the head. My camera is set to show the focal point. I've had a few other shots do the same thing when focused out all the way. And I know they are focused on the head too.. Maybe my camera is showing the wrong focal point ?(I use single focal point for birds)

That cute little person is my sweet little girl! She's 19 months old now! I photoshopped the snow off her eyebrow he other day because its driving me nuts but I forgot to change the picture!

We still haven't been able to see the original. When you load the photo again and select the box for 'store original', DO NOT preview. If you do, the pic won't load.

I did not preview and I did click store original. I am sending from my Android so it must not work with that. Sorry.

Unless you have the original photoi stored on your blackberry, how can you 'load' it into UHH? I'm a 'technopeasant', so forgive me if this seems to be a 'clown question'.

in photoshop use shadows highligts on either the filter or the image panel and increase the shadows

Cameras have a much smaller dynamic range than the human eye. In order to expose correctly for the dove it would have to over-expose the background. If you have photoshop you can the targeted adjustment brush in camera raw and lighten, darken, sharpen, saturate any area in the picture you wish.
