Pretty incredible, its eyes look more like the eyes of a dragonfly than the eyes of a bee... Have a question for you, what is the furthest distance that the MP-E 65 will focus? Am I correct in assuming something like 12" and that it will only do Macro and not closeup photography?

The minimum working distance is 4 inches, 101mm at 1x. It will not focus at infinity, the lowest possible magnification you could shoot at is 1x.

Per: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/products/lenses/ef_lens_lineup/lens_macro_pro/mp_e_65mm_f_2_8_1_5x_macro_photo#Specifications
Closest Focusing Distance (sensor plane to subject) = 240-mm (0.24m) = 9.45-inches (0.8-feet).

Do your numbers represent Minimum Working Distance (lens front element to subject)?

quote=eframgoldberg The minimum working distance ... (show quote)
After asking the question I went to some forums where the lens was discussed and folks who own and use the lens said that the furthest the subject can be from the front of the lens is about 4 inches.... and I guess that was what Efram was speaking to...

Wonderful but very specialized lens.... not so sure that I want to take that step as it would be in lieu of replacing my 100mm. I think that I will just stick to reversed and stacking for high mags for awhile.

And it's not cheap! SRP = $1,050

I was talking about minimum working distance, it is marked on the barrel of the lens.
