Bio:
Alchemy is the process of transmuting a simple item into an object of value. Nan Thompson believes that photography is alchemy. In a fraction of a second she can capture a flower, a leaf, or a fish and bestow on it a new life. That alchemy allows that image, that brief moment in time, to be enjoyed almost forever.
It is the fascinating inner small world that is her subject matter, not the expansive landscape. She notices the silk threads in a milkweed pod, striations in a rock face, or red berries dripping with rain. Nan believes that photography is not just what you see; but the way that you see it. I want to involve the viewer with their environment and stir their souls with the small simple things, she explains.
Nan is now working to combine her photography with her papermaking. Her papermaking website is www.NansAlchemy.com. Her photography website is under construction.
