Was in west central Florida last couple of weeks on vacation. Was lucky enough to run into another guy walking around one of the parks with an R6 walking along taking photos of insects. He turned me onto this nest that was literally across the road from the condo we were staying at. Went out and set up and took a LOT of shots. Was hard to pare it down to 10.

In that first shot, the hen had sat there fairly quiet for some time. Then she started calling quite vociferously. I caught a glimpse of the cock (name?) incoming circling once and managed to get the camera off the tripod. Was pretty exciting, and in the end, quite satisfying and pleasing to have gotten these.

Canon R6 with RF 100-500L. Debated a long time about dropping the $$$ for that lens, but certainly not disappointed now.

Constructive comments and critique always welcome.

Right outside at the entrance drive to the condos we're staying at this morning.

From camera to phone with post done on the phone, so not sure how it will look on a bigger screen until I can get home.

Can't see the chick in this shot low in the nest

Very nice waterfall shots!

I love shooting waterfalls and I recognize several of those. Could you please tell me the names (or locations) of the 5th and 6th ones.

#1 & 2 ~ Looking Glass Falls on US 276 north of Brevard, NC

#3, 4, & 5 ~ Pearson Falls near Saluda, NC. Pretty remote, and a gorgeous drive.

#6 & 7 ~ Shunkawauken Falls. Way back up a winding county road north of Columbus, NC

#8 ~ Upper Whitewater Falls South of Toxaway NC on state road 281 almost to the NC/SC state line.

My state... Good work. Thanks for not being too obnoxious with the cliché "silky waterfall effect". We have a lot of great waterfalls in NC.

Thanks. We were trying to cover a lot of ground in 4-5 days, so only got to those that were easily accessible with short hikes. I was pretty happy with what I got at the upper Pearson Falls (that's the one I monkeyed with the sky and screwed up...need to fix it before I print it).

And the one straight on at Looking Glass. Water flow was low enough that I could get out and use the rocks at the lower end of the pool as a foreground.

Even though the waterfalls are the "primary" focus, in pretty much all of them I was trying to get the detail in the rocks as well. Had never been to the Carolinas.

Lived in Colorado & NM for about 15 years, so it was a pleasant change of what "mountains" are.

After almost 2 years of no travel, finally got a chance to get somewhere to take some photos. A little later than we would have liked for colors, but still managed to get a few that are decent...and yes, one of them I messed with the sky and just saw when I exported it that it's weird and not very well done...please don't think too harshly of me until I can fix it...

Only took the R6 and the 24-105 f4 L, so was also good practice trip with minimal gear.

It was a road trip, and had to take what I could get for light & weather...but at least it was late in the year & cold enough I was able to get these without any people in them...

That is not a "yellow shadow'. The large umbrella acted as a giant yellow scrim.

yes, that's exactly what it was. That shot was taken almost due west late in the afternoon. Sun was pretty much directly above it. I'm mostly in to landscape and wildlife, so have somewhere between little and no experience with "skin". Especially in this kind of setting. Live and learn as they say. That's actually the reason I went to this. Just to get some experience...

And although I greatly appreciate all the replies, I'm nowhere near good enough with processing to even think about trying mess with the colors...

So I slept on it, and ended up just warming the overall WB a bit, desaturating the whole photo, and lightened up and adjusted the subject a little.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Always good to get other ideas.

I got this shot this afternoon of a friend of mine. I use ON1 for PP.

Didn't see it in the VF when I took it, but got back home and that yellow umbrella cast a nasty shadow that i have no idea how to correct.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Outstanding. I love orchids and these are nicely photographed.

We didn't have one last year, so was anxious to get there again. It's a pretty big event. They import quite a stock for sale to the attendees. Good thing they have done it for a while. They set out a quota for the first day and sole out early afternoon. We got there about 30 minutes after they opened on Sunday, and people were saying you needed to get to the sale area because stuff was going fast again. Think they sold out before noon again.

We manage to snag a couple...now if we can just keep them alive...

Thanks for looking, and glad you enjoyed.

Excellent set! Love the iguana.

Thanks. Still learning the R6, but the eye tracking is amazing. Can even make an old fart like me look like I might know what I'm doing...

Went to the annual orchid show at the botanical gardens a couple of weekends ago. Finally getting around to posting a few shots. Would have been great to have been able to set up a tripod and focus bracket a few of them a little more open, but with it being an open public event, had to make do handheld and share the space fairly quickly. Ended up shooting most of them between f5~f8 to try to get some DOF.

R6 body, and either a Canon RF35mm F1.8 macro with a ring flash, or a Tokina EF 100mm F2.8 with a Godox V860-II flash with a mini light box type diffuser. Constructive criticism always welcomed. Still pretty new on the macro stuff.

They softened up quite a bit when I exported them, but still a lot of amazing colors. Hope you enjoy.

I thought you were going to show us a found camera ...

I wish...but would likely be a Nikon or Olympus...that's about all you can buy on island.

Have to import a Canon...or a Sony for that matter, I guess.

Still learning this R6...

Sunset ended up being a bit of a dud...

Somebody had composed these items when we arrived. I took the liberty to rearrange them to my liking...kind of getting desperate on things to photograph. At least the light helped

Very nice!!!

As a "sand shooter", being surrounded by nothing but sand and ocean is my dream location.

Yeah, but with a closed airport for just about a year...a change of scenery would be nice.

On the other hand, we're probably the luckiest place to be on the planet right now. Government shut things down HARD for several weeks last spring, and has been ultra diligent with testing and quarantining. It paid off...we haven't had a positive case "in the wild" since the very first cruise passenger that had to be brought ashore when this all started. Have had a few cases with inbound and/or returning travellers, but they've been isolated/treated so it was contained.

And although people do still sort of naturally keep their distance now, no mask mandate, no restrictions on restaurants. Think there may still be a 500 person limit on gatherings, but on this little rock, that would be hard to do. With the exception of being able to travel, and some supply chain issue with imports, we're just keep our fingers crossed and hope it keeps going for us.

Have the good fortune to be able to afford to indulge myself in getting an R6. The 24-105L was on backorder, as well as the EF2RF adapter, so started with the RF35 f1.8, then adapted to the Tamron 24-70 f2.8, and finally got the RF24-105.

We only have about 50 feet of elevation change on the island, so a lot of opportunity is dedicated to sunsets and moonrises. I was quite surprised at how much difference in color there is with these. Really not experienced enough to know if it's the lenses or just the environment at the time they were shot.

Regardless, hope you find them enjoyable.
