I have the Nikon Micro 60mm f/2.8, 105mm f/2.8 and the excellent 200mm f/4.0. My favorite is the 200mm, which gives me more working distance with skiddish creatures. It is tack sharp and performs beautifully. I like to use the 105mm for closer shots.

Katy, I love photographing dragonflies as well. Very challenging and rewarding and it does not take long to learn the habits of different species, which will help you get beautiful shots. Just a tip, especially with the blue dasher (who I swear seems to love to be photographed), you will notice that he will keep returning to the same perch spot multiple times. If you think you missed the shot because he flew off, wait a few seconds and must likely he will come right back! This is great especially if you have a tripod set up or if you are sitting still in a comfortable spot. You will have lots of opportunities of getting the blue dasher at different angles without having to chase him around!

Would like to offer you encouragement on your-upcoming wedding shoot! I agree that a 24-70 would be nice, but a fast wide angle may be a better choice for those important wider shots). I am not a professional wedding photographer, but I took my daughter’s wedding photos last September at a very small, family-only wedding on a public beach beside the Don Cesar hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was a morning wedding and the only lenses I used were a Sigma 24 art lens and Nikon 105/1.4. I had only one flash (and a tripod so I could be in some of the after-ceremony photos). I have a Nikon D810 and the all the photos were stunning from the ceremony, to the inside reception dinner, the sunsets, and the many photos around and inside the Don Cesar I took of my daughter and her new husband and family. I really enjoyed being the photographer I never regretted not hiring a professional. Sometimes less is more! Honestly, The photos were gorgeous and are forever creating smiles in a Miller’s Signature Album. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes, it is an expensive lens, although I've had it for many years. I am interested in checking out those Sigmas. I've heard their macro lenses are really good!

So, would you say the Sigma 150 is your fave, then, Lisa - or would it be the Nikkor 200 Macro?

Chris, I really love the Nikkor 200mm macro! The detail you can get from this lens, even at a bit of a distance is pretty incredible! It is probably my favorite, but I use the 150 and 60 a lot for quick close-ups. I really enjoy insect photography. I use the Nikon SB-R200 wireless lighting system for macro.

Macro is my very favorite! I have a Nikon 60mm, 105mm and 200mm (macro lenses). I like the 60mm for taking photos of something at very close range ( like this photo of a silk moth in my hand). The 150 is great for a little distance and the 200 is fantastic when photographing something at a greater distance, so I won’t scare my subject.
