Canon 100mm 2.8 L Macro, followed closely by Tamron 45mm and Sigma 100-400mm.

I always use a hood except when it may get in the way of my shooting such as macro or using a polarizer. They are essential for protection, reducing flair, and increasing contrast.

2 and 3 are the best. I keep going back and forth with these, but slight edge to 3 if one is really pixel peeping.

If I were you I would take a look at the Tamron 35 to 150 mm. If you want something wider to go with that then check out the Tamron 17 to 35. Would be great reasonably priced two lens set for you

I carry my 100-400mm all of the time and I am 66. If this is too heavy for you, then you should give up on reach.

I would take a look at the Tamron or Sigma 100-400 mm lenses. extra reach, sharp and not too heavy.

Up until I lost it in the Camp Fire, it was one of my favorite lenses. I am thinking about getting another one. You can't go wrong with it imho.

Hey, learning is fun.

Just wait until you get to my age. You can learn something new every day, even if you knew it yesterday.

LOL I am right there with you!

I do not (thankfully) recall seeing you on here prior to this but I can understand why you believe you have a reputation here.
I find your rather pedantic explanation to be misleading. The cause of the distortion is obviously the result of transcendental forces tossing a metaphysical pebble into the pool of a failed reality.

I have not seen any in depth reviews for this lens yet. I have the 17-35mm already, so I am actively following this lens. I really doubt that you will see any price reductions soon unless it just isn't selling.
