For any not experienced with gators but wanting to photograph them: On Alligators (I know several trappers/hunters, and have several airboat friends who share info because they know I'm interested, and I have experienced alligator behaivors firsthand) Alligators in the wild will generally run, or hit the water and go under when threatened, are fairly docile and relatively easy to photograph (if they don't hide, go under water, etc.). DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG WITH YOU, AND WATCH SMALL CHILDREN (they are both on the menu, all the time).
Humans (usually) have created the problem gators due to illegal feeding and baiting them...they are smart enough to associate our actions with their needs, and are very mobile. As said, mating season is a whole other gator, the males roam and groan, fight, will act very aggressively, they often will not run away, but run right at you, or lunge, swim at you... a momma on a nest mound is quite dangerous, will attack, great care needed around them, and she will protect her eggs and her babies, unlike many reptiles.
I have actually been chased by a large gator (as a foolish young man) and I'm here to tell you they are very fast, thankfully they can't run the 400, even a 50-100 yd dash is out of the question....there were 3 of us teasing this large gator, bad idea...when we ran we split 3 ways and that stopped the chase at approx 50 ft.!!! I never ever teased another gator!! I wouldn't want to piss one off in the water!!!
Great set, nice work!! Love it!... br br For any... (

Well said. You definitely have to use common sense when around them. I jokingly tell my wife I just have to run faster than her.
