Do you have a favorite lens? For bird snaps thru the kitchen wibdow mine by far is Sony's 70-350mm f4.5-6.3. This morn waiting for the feeder and bath to be visited I snapped this Petunia ~ 4feet away. It performs well as a "macro" too?

I have seen other small birds sipping at our hummer feeders.

Thanx for the details. I never thought of a milling table. I tried a microscope stage once back in Ekta chrome days for a pproject showing chicken embryo daily changes.
Just an idea it sounds like you know the "speed" of the motorized rail fairly accurate Could you then automate exposures like a time lapse series? Letting the camera auto-focus each frame at each distance needed to build the stack?

60mm Micro-Nikkor f5. 6, 1/125",ISO 500 manual focus w/Nikon2Emount adapter on Sony A6300.
Handheld, the hardest part is staying infocus as at 89yo I sway!

2 Questions
1. How to covert Magnitude of moon as repoted by AstroApps like Stellarium to the cndl/ft² (Sorry not sure I got that right, but I can't go back to your reply w/the units)
2. What's the formula you mention to go from those units to f-stop, shutter speed & ISO ?
Attached fotos are w/Sony A6300, Sony 70-350mm lens usually Manual Focus using Peaking & magnification to focus @ infinity, shutter 1/1000" as handheld f 6.3, at infinity depth of field is irrelevant w/moon tho f8 might be sweeter spot for lens and minus 2stops compensation to tame hi-lites, except for earthshine foto which was zero comp. I take spot reading off illuminated side of moon & set ISO @ Auto for most frames. Also I believe 1st shot is w/Clear View zoom @ maybe 2.o magnification giving the 350mm lens an equivalent focal length {2.o x 1.5 crop factorl of 1050 mm. Sorry I have not the time to dig thru exif data to be more specific.

Yes, much friendly help ThankYou.
I got a BS in Forestry in the 50s but came out to Colorado to go to grad school and spent years in snow research, tho I retired from TxA&M as a Fotografer after moving on from local paper in 90s.
What is girth of your wedding pine?

My thought was to use the 128GB SSD for processing Astrofotos for the files Siril digests are ~ ½ the SSD capacity and isn't CPU access to the SSD faster than to the 1-TB HD?
PS I winter near Crystal River, Florida. Do you kayak? I have a Current Designs Libra XT tandem if you like to paddle & bird fotos?

Thank you for the vote of confidence & the breadcrumb to ON-1. Can you tell me if it has a way to stack Astro-fotos? Mainly moon & planets. GIMP can do it, but tediously. Siril can too, some what more expeditiously. Anyway I will look into ON1 (It has a great logo). As to buying what you want I prefer to spend shekels on lenses, I shy away from post processing having had a photo-editor at the newspaper: once I had developed the Ektachrome & put the sleeves on his light table I went home.
PS What are the pines in your city? The She-oaks of Australia??
