From my perspective, it is great to have some zoom capability on your main "walk around" lens. I'm a Canon shooter, and I use a Canon 18-135mm USM lens as my go to "walk-around" lens. It is on my camera about 90% of the time. The Tamron 18-200 would give you a nice range in focal length. The Nikon 18-140 could also be a good choice for your D5200. If you are used to having a zoom on your Nikon CoolPix, the 18-55 kit lens that came with your D5200 may seem limiting.
thank you.

I wouldn't hurry in buying any lens until you master the camera and feel limited by the current one. With more experience you will be in better situation to evaluate which should be your next purchase :)

Thank you

Thanks so much for all the great info on my d5200. Iam learning the controls. I was thinking of getting a 18/200 Tamron lens for so I will have some zoom. Thanks again.

Great camera. As others mentioned it was also my first dSRL, and I really loved it.
Unfortunately I had to sell it when I upgrade to my current D7200. I wish I could have keep it (but needed the cash), and I am still missing the flipping screen once in a while.

That combo will allow you to develop your skills without issues, and in the future you will be able to identify which your "next move" should be (based on your experience and preferences).

Thank you. I have a cool plx now. From what I see so far I think Iam going to like the d5200.

The D5200 is the first DSLR camera I ever owned. Mine came with a kit lens and worked flawlessly. In particular, I liked the layout of the controls. I bought a helpful guide on Amazon from David Busch and can recommend the one by Rob Sylvan as well. Sold it to a friend, not due to any dissatisfaction. I can recommend it.

I was given a d5200 and a 18/55 lens. Is this a good camera? Thanks.
