Hi, 69 yr old (male) newbie here. I know little about photography, yet like most people, I’ve been snapping pictures all of my life. And today, everyone’s a photographer. So, I’d like to learn the right way. And then choose a suitable beginner camera. Been looking at a few kits on Amazon. Such as Canon Powershot sx60 or sx70 or a Sony A6000. Not looking for a DSLR, but maybe a mirror less (from what little research I’ done, this seems like a good fit for me). But cart before the horse here. I’m interested first in taking an online beginners photography class. So, reaching out here for suggestions as to a decent course. I don’t know if I can just find something on YouTube, or perhaps find a decent online cla$$. Any experience/suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks very much!

Welcome,

I'm a newbie myself, but someone on here pointed me to this online free site: https://digital-photography-school.com/ I'm still working my way through everything on there.

I meant to add... Based on UHH advice and my own research, Shenandoah valley sites we aim to visit include Luray Caverns, Monticello (not quite in the valley), Museum of Shenandoah Valley (Winchester VA), Humpback Rocks, FrontierCulture Museum and any other interesting site we see along the way. Not sure how far south you're going but if you hit the Blue Ridge Parkway, UHH recommended "most see" sites include Peaks of Otter, Explore Park, Roanoke Mountain and, of course, Mabury Mill.

I’ve been to all the Shenandoah Valley places you mentioned- I live in the Valley Good choices! Grand Caverns is another place we like- not as many visitors unless you pick a day when there is a school field trip.

can you name this plant??? very unusual!

I think it's what we call Lamb's Ear, I don't know the proper name for it. I have it in my flower bed. If I'm wrong, someone will correct me, I'm sure.

As for the ordering make sure you don't select Free one day delivery with Prime Membership.
Not sure why you want to leave though, included in the price is unlimited image storage with Prime Photos...

Sorry, didn't know you were replying at the same time.

How can I cancel Amazon Prime and how can I order thru Amazon without getting subscribed to Prime? Thanks.

If you're like me, you don't call anyone unless there is no other option.

On Amazon (on desktop computer, not sure if it's different on app):

1.Go to your Account & Lists
2.Prime
3. Membership Management
4. End Membership and Benefits
5. End My Benefits

When you order again, just make sure you don't click anything subscribing you back to Prime.
Hope this helps.

Wonderful that there are still bees around! I love them! Here's a photo of my great-grandpa and his hives in Oregon ca 1890.

Oh my goodness! That is awesome! He must have sold the honey? I love the old photo.

Took a walk around the yard today and left camera in Auto mode. I'm so happy our honey bees survived the winter! These are nice bees so I was able to get close. We've had hives in the past with mean bees and they would sting anyone within 100 yards of their hive. I'm no expert on honey bees, these belong to my husband. I love watching the bees come back to the hive with their little legs full of pollen.
