My younger grandson is in the 7th/8th grade jazz band. I gave him my 1951 (Bronx NY) Bach Stradivarius trumpet after having it professionally cleaned. Last Friday, the band entered a jazz band competition. They won the Gold award for best band and awarded best trumpet solo (not him), best trombone and rhythm sections. I cannot adequately express the joy I felt when he texted me about the competition. They are really good - I saw them perform at the winter concert last Feb.

He also had his head shaved, for the 9th consecutive year, at the St. Baldrick's Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research Charity. He received a special award for raising over $4000 this year and $35,000+ over the nine years of participation.

Here are a few photos from getting his head shaved this year. I'm so proud of him. He's also on a path to become an Eagle Scout and will play lacrosse this year. He is busy!! He's really a "neat" kid!! Credit to his Mom (my daughter) & Dad. His Dad has his head shaved every year too and helps organize the fundraiser as does my daughter. I included a photo of Dad.
Thanks for viewing.

We went to Thunder and Lightning Over Arizona airshow this past weekend to watch the Thunderbirds perform. We were not disappointed. Images are PP.

Love #1 and #3, looks like a beautiful day for an air show!

I enjoy shooting still life photos and get many of my ideas from watching YouTube video, the latest one show mixing gels for background. I am posting my results here with the set up and Postproduction to follow.
I re-read the rules to this section and hope it stays inside its parameters. If you find it interesting and informative please let me know.

Yes, Diane, I use to do that in my old film days, I kids actually enjoyed being tossed around. Now a days, at my age, it's hard for me to get around, now they toss me all around, isn't karma a bitch.

Yes, indeed. Sometimes karma is an ally, sometimes an opponent! lol These days I toss around my Husband, Sister and aging Mother. Our Son, being grown and married, does not often join our excursions.

Well done, Diane.

Thank you Earnest. I cannot count the times I have thrown my family around in my sudden u-turns and pull-overs with orders to get out because the field of flowers and light are perfect conditions, etc. Luckily they are pretty used to it by now and always humor me in good spirits.

Great shot; nice work. I do much prefer the processing technique on the first one.

Thank you Jaymatt. I used the same technique on both, think I dialed it back more on the first and may have even masked it away some in the foreground. The grass area was a little sparsely filled and the filter applied was a quick fix. I tried to keep #1 more on the realistic side as it was more about the gate. #2, however, I kind of liked what it was doing in the trees and grass...adding a touch of painterly feel. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I did debate the effect but in the end I decided to just have fun with it.

I like #2, Diane. Some of my favorite images were made while I was standing next to the "Trespassers Will Be Shot" sign.

Thankfully I was the only shooter in this shot!

Definitely worth the turn-around!

I agree. We pass that place almost every Saturday taking my Mom to dinner at her favorite place and I have never really noticed it until I had my camera with me that day and was paying extra attention to my surroundings for photo ops!

Cool pp, love the "through-the-gate" view! You are braver than I re trespassing

Thanks Linda. No trespassing. I walked close enough to the gate to shoot through it but I was still on the outside of it. There was a keypad to call the house and open the gate and I was half expecting a voice to say "May I Help You" but I got my shots and left without a hitch.
