...killing off "single purpose" cameras?

Another threat to photography at an entirely different level - link in the next post.

Well this is just AI painting.

What could potentially kill (mainstream, see below) special purpose cameras is a completely different technique (also developed by nVidia):

1) A mediocre camera (aka cell phone) takes a picture. No optical zoom, bokeh, great composition, no nothing
2) The cell phone uploads the photo to the cloud
3) A (el cheapo but still paid) very advanced AI service uses the mediocre photo to create a great looking one, indistinguishable of one made with a very expensive camera
4) The photo returns to the phone, where it can be shared on social media.

Note: I mean *mainstream* cameras like Sony A7 series, Canon Rs, Nikon Zs... The very high end cameras like the Phase One, other MF's, REDs, Sony VENICEs will still be around longer.

Not only is the GPS great for traveling, but it's also good for local driving. I had to drop something off in Woodstock yesterday before continuing on to Catskill. I figured I'd take my regular route through Woodstock, but the GPS had a different idea. It had me turn left and right and left and right on roads I had never taken before. It wasn't until I was a few miles from Catskill that I was on a familiar road. I don't know how much time I saved, but the GPS is set for the shortest time.

This has happened several times when I am at a local location and have to go to another local location. The GPS shows me a route that never would have occurred to me.

I always drive using Waze, not only for navigation but *very specially* because of speed traps, jams, detours, etc.

I'm even a Waze traffic data contributor. That means that I report blocked streets, edit road modifications, etc.

I spent an unpleasant hour at the doctor's today, while he and a nurse tried to get the wax out of my ear. Ordinarily, it's quick and simple. Not today. I was right at my pain limit, when he said the last bit was too far in for him to keep working at.

I think this is going to be a good investment.

Since people are still posting, it sems to be alive. I'm going to tally up the responses and post the results.

Did you know that, according to some, the world ended in 2000, but we were way to busy with mundane things to notice?

I have a reason for doing this, and that reason will so be revealed.

Do this without looking at anyone else's choices. Pick a random color and a number between 1 - 100, and post it below.

BTW, I know exactly what you want to test...

On Wednesday I took the new Hasselblad with a roll of Ektar 100 out to the river to see what the Hasse would do with my favorite local mountain. I got the roll developed that afternoon by TCR and came home with the negs to do the scanning. Ever since then I've been working to clean up the dust spots. (That's why I don't like scanning!) I found a spot where I could get some foreground interest in the frame for Cany143.

The resulting TIFF is 201 mg. Sort of large, no?

I think this camera is a keeper. It's easy to use and gives pretty nice results. What do you think?

For my 12th birthday, my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic 100, altogether with a box full of flash cubes !!

Boy, did I enjoy that little marvel.

Today, while cleaning the attic I found just one box of Ektachromes, and scanned some of them.

Just some random unimportant shots...
Deep emotion...

BTW, I'm the one in the center of the first photo.

My uncle survived only long enough to be liberated by the soviets. He died two days later of dysentery.

Not exactly...

He was a soldier.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa's fate.

No he was extremely stubborn.

He refused to have a phone.
He refused to have a TV
He refused to die in WWII

I have vision issue (close up)

So do I, the only camera I tested (*) with enough diopter adjustment for my eyes is... TADAAA!! My mirrorless Sony A7C.

(*) I did not test every possible camera/lens combination, there might be others with the same or even better diopter adjustment range.

The progress is in the sensor, nowhere else.

The idea of using a display instead of through the lens is reverting to old time when folks were looking from above to focus...

Issues with the display...
- LIGHT!!! If too bright, good luck using the display.
- Eyes issue If one needs glasses all bets are off, there is no way to adjust for that but use the tiny in camera display in the 'view finder'. Go check for accuracy on that since the display is made of tiny pixels vs 'a normal light' (analog)
- Weight unbalance. (Light body, heavy lens)

That is one of the few reasons why I will not upgrade to mirrorless, even if I do appreciate the new sensors.

My grandpa long time refused to upgrade his T model, because he didn't see any advantages of having a gas pedal...

He said things like "feet don't have the necessary touch"...

Same kind of argument.
