Get a dry microfiber cloth (like the ones for eyeglasses) and keep in your camera bag. If you need to use a liquid, there are Zeiss cloths available by the hundreds from Amazon for not much money, and they'll last you for a long time. You could also use just a bit of water, or an alcohol & water solution.

Thank you all for the great replies. Still undecided, but I have plenty of time to make up my mind. I'm really excited for the trip, I've never been to Europe, and am afraid my wife and I will not want to come back. Afraid might be the wrong word to use there...

If you are not looking for quality photographs, by all means do the smart phone thing. That will make you the consummate tourist. And by the way, why would your camera weigh any more after being there for a while than it would on arriving? Too much pasta?

Well, I didnt want to say that, but since you did, yes. Mostly likely I will weigh more, but I'm going to blame the camera.

My family and I are going to Italy at the end of August, and I'm debating whether to take my D750 with me, or just rely on my iphone 14 Pro. Honestly, I dont have any intention of using a tripod anywhere we go, most of what I shoot will likely only be "snapshots" so I don't know if I want to bring the camera. If I do, I think I will limit my lens to either a 35mm or 50mm. I have a Nikkor 18-300, but I feel like it will get pretty heavy a few days in. We are mostly going to be in Rome, with a one day trip to Venice (overnight) and a one day trip to Napels (overnight) thrown in. We'll be there 8 days. We also have an overnight layover in Stockholm coming back, we intend to do some sightseeing there, while we have the chance.

Has anyone faced this? What did you do, and were you glad, or did you wish you'd made a different decision?

Thanks!
-Mike

This comes along a couple times a year at B&H, but today, they have the 2023 version of Photoshop & Premier Elements (download or box) on sale for $89.99 (regularly $149.99).

Freemont Street is a great photo location. It is NOT on the strip, but worth getting over there. You could also try to get on the giant ferris wheel they have, I think its near Mandalay Bay. If you got on that, you'd get some pretty good photos.

Outside of that, do some research on which hotels have rooftop access. While a bar might not be the best location to bring a camera, it could pay off with the right view.

I used to stay at Mandalay once a year for my company's kick-off. I always requested East facing rooms and was rewarded with magnificent sunrises. I live in NY and would do my best to stay on East Coast time while I was there. It wasn't the best for staying up late, but when you wake up at 4am Vegas time, you can always watch the sunrise.

I upgraded to the 14Pro when it came out, but I had the 13Pro prior to it (I traded it in, and only paid $255 for the 14Pro).

It has a fantastic camera, especially in low-light. That being said, I don't think there is much of a noticeable difference from the 13Pro.

If you're interested in upgrading, it depends on what you're currently using. I'd recommend that anything older than 2 or 3 years, you'd see a noticeable difference.

I am a huge fan of ESET. They really provide exceptional security.

Just fly in beginner mode for a little while. That won't let you fly fast or far or high. It keeps you no higher than 50ft or lower and keeps within about 150ft of take off point. Practice basic flying skills until you get comfortable. Then take it out of beginner mode, but not into sport mode, just stay in the standard mode P and go easy.

If you crashed early on, everything becomes frightening. Just go to a wide open place and make yourself do various flying maneuvers, such as flying in a square, then reverse that pattern. Then in a circle and fly around yourself at varying altitudes and before long you will get comfortable with it again. Any fears, just release the sticks and it will stop and hover in place until you get yourself together again, then continue.

Thanks for the tips, I agree that this would be a great way to get comfortable. Just need to actually do it. Its so much easier just to go in the yard... :-)

I do have some open space on my property, but not as much as going out to a field or something like that. I could use the ballfields where my son plays baseball. They wouldn't care.

I love this thread by the way!

As a novice drone pilot myself, I appreciate the suggestion on Da Vinci Resolve, it is currently downloading as I type this. I have the DJI Mini 2, but really want to upgrade to the Mini 3, specifically for the obstacle avoidance ability. The Mini 2 does not have that, and I found out the hard way how easy it is to crash this thing. Fortunately, I had already purchased the protection plan, and they shipped a new one to me very quickly.

I am hesitant to fly because of the unknowns, but I also realize that the more I practice, the less stressed I get. I just passed the TRUST training, and my card arrived a couple days ago.

Wouldn't you know it, I just got an email from B&H, they have hard drives on sale right now: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/external-hard-drives-portable-usb/ci/6543?filters=fct_a_filter_by%3A02_REBATE%7C03_INSTOCK%2Cfct_price%3ANaN..200&sc_src=email_31218&sc_lid=3104022&sc_uid=cZhpXvSzoT&sc_llid=703973&sc_customer=E305EBCCA1D301E0C40547706420176C9244B13795CACDE49698C853ABA5CF79&utm_medium=Email%2031218&utm_campaign=Holiday%202022&utm_source=221115_HLD_HLD_Holiday_Computers%20%26%20Components%2020221115&utm_content=&utm_term=IMAGE%20computers_11-14-2022_budget07.jpg

I would definitely only buy a name brand HDD, Seagate and WD are very reliable. Keep your eyes on the B&H website, they do "daily deals" on specific items and hard drives always come up and are very reasonably priced. For my everyday external drives, WD is my brand of choice, but G-Drive is also very good (and may be owned by one of the other major brands). You can also watch Amazon, you can usually get a really good deal on hard drives there as well.

Please, as many have stated, don't waste money on what you saw on ebay. I'd bet money you'll be disappointed.

I have always used hot shoe covers for protection. I have also bought a silver metal Nikon cover for my silver Df and a brown Nikon double Z cover for my Z 6II.

I too bought one of the silver ones for my D750. It fits more snugly than the plastic one that came on the camera, and looks better too.

These guys are my heroes. They used the D750 several years ago, and I attended one of their overnight workshops in 2016 that led me to purchase my D750. I think they have since mostly moved to mirrorless, but their fundamentals are the same.
