The sunset was behind me in the West. The camera is pointed East, picking up the afterglow and the intense coloration of the eastern sky.

Composed of 7 overlapping photos, camera held vertically, this image of Central Park with Eastern and downtown Manhattan in the background was originally over a gigabyte. After flattening and smoothing first with Topaz noise AI and then with Topaz Sharpen AI, the photo is as perfect as I can get it.

I'd appreciate any comments. Thank you.

I thought I was getting the hang of this stuff but I would think for a depth of that deep wouldn't you need an aperture smaller than f4? Can someone explain why this looks so good at f4?

The edit above that replaced the sky is interesting. For post processing, I suggest also adjusting the level of the train so it's 'falling over' a bit less.

Your exposure parameters are fine. The camera / image EXIF reported shutter priority at 1/500, no exposure compensation and AUTO ISO. So, why did the camera select the ridiculous ISO-1600? I believe the issue is the spot metering of a black subject in a bright situation. The black of the train (on the side away from the direct sunlight) came out great, because the camera (via spot metering) ignored the brightness of the sky.

Thank you for this response. I read UHH to learn about photography. This was a great learning experience about metering.

I took some shots of the sky to check for dust after cleaning the sensor on my SONY A6000. I don't think I see any dust but I see these spots at smaller apertures. This is at f22. It gets better as I open it up until it isn't obviously visible at f10. Is that from the sun directly behind me? I never cleaned a sensor before. I used a Lenspen very cautiously after watching a few videos. I haven't seen the spots in pictures that were not of the open sky although I haven't given it a thorough test. I'm going on a road trip of national parks including Glacier, Yellowstone and Theodore Yellowstone starting Monday.

Whoa! I might do that too. But I'm not quite ready for that. I hope to be someday. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you. How do I tell what version I have? The welcome screen says AdobePhotoshop CS. When I click on "system info" the first 3 lines say:
Adobe Photoshop Version: 8.0 (8.0x118)
Operating System: Windows NT
Version: 6.2

I'm a new member and novice with an old version of PhotoshopCS 8. I'm recently retired and now have the time to try to learn more about shooting and editing. I'm thankful to have the opportunity to consult the talent on uglyhedgehog. I feel like the sun popping through the trees is distracting. Any suggestions on how to fix that? Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
