" I wouldn't even use the Hassleblad in the church or I'd get the ol' stink eye from the priest."

That happened at a church wedding I attended in 2003. The photog's Hasselblad was clicking away and the priest stopped the service and told the photographer to leave the church. Which he did and his photos were only of the exterior scenes. I was in the groom's party toward the front of the church and well off to the side. It turned out that I saved the day. I had brought my Olympus C2100 which had a very long lens and which enabled me to zoom in on the three participants at the altar. Great pictures!

I agree re Lenovo. Re one of the previous messages, I have a T420s from 2012. Easily upgradeable (now has a 500 GB SSD and 16 GB memory). Built like a tank.

The Amber Room at Catherine Palace, St. Petersburg. I was admonished by cries of "Nyet, nyet!!". Ok for photos elsewhere in the palace, just not in that room. I shot off twice with my quiet Olympus anyway.

I think that Lumix makes terrific cameras including "bridge" cameras. Onetime when I was preparing for a cruise, my preferred camera had to go off to the camera hospital. In desperation I got on ebay and found an FZ5 for a ridiculous price, about $30. I bought it and it came soon. I was shocked by its appearance. It was about 60% in size compared to my more recent Lumix bridge. It was a 'baby' version. I fell in love with it for being a travel camera easily fitting into my pocket. It was in the original box, obviously tucked away for many years. There was no learning experience, all the Lumix programmable features were there.

Does anyone remember buying through Albert White, a Hong Kong catalogue outfit? I bought several binoculars, Nikon and Asahi Pentax, satisfactorily about 1970.

In 2003 I attended a wedding that was being serviced by a photographer using a MF camera (SLR Rollei? Hasselblad?) that was making so much noise that the priest stopped the service, telling the photog to go outside. I was on the inside side of the church with my then new Olympus C2100 bridge camera (with a fantastic long zoom lens) and snapped away. Those photos saved the day. The professional took all the exterior shots.

I second the thoughts expressed by others here. You will enjoy the trip, lots of great photo opportunities. One of my highlights was the chain of shots of the progression of the 'midnight sun'. We took the Hurtigruten ship tour and that got us as far north as Nordkapp (and beyond). You mention the nutshell tour ('Norway in a nutshell tour'). My Harstad ( a little south of Tromso) cousin asked me what the nutshell tour was about. I described it as Oslo to Bergen and return with stops in Myrdal, Flam, Voss and several fjords. She was insulted saying that is not Norway, you have to include the whole country including the north (her backyard). On our one-way nutshell tour we got to Bergen and got on the ship.

This KitchenAid oven is a traditional oven (infrared elements) but we also have a Thermador induction/hybrid range (built by Bosch in Spain). When I read up on it I found that Schott makes the top plate and the glass technique is a spin-off from the space industry.

This is somewhat of-topic. While I was cleaning the interior of our KitchenAid oven, I noted that the glass front had 'Schott' etched near its edge. I can add Schott to my B+W filters and probably most of my Zeiss lenses.

My mostly-used camera is a Leica Vlux. My backup is the Lumix camera from which the Leica is derived. Nothing to learn and the results are the same.

Leave the card in the camera. Use a USB cable to D/L to the computer. The biggest cause of cards going bad are because of mechanical failure. Leaving them in the camera or device reduces contacts loosening or breaking.

I agree with the comment "reduces contacts loosening or breaking". My problem of two years ago caused me much grief and money (for camera repair). I pulled the card out of the camera and downloaded the pictures successfully (good) but when putting the card back in, the contacts in the camera became bent (bad, and due to the card's contacts being damaged). I am now super careful and examine the card before putting back in the camera.

Thanks. I saw my battery listed by Wasabi and there were good reviews. I might go with them (after any more comments from here).

I've got two older digital cameras that came with proprietary Panasonic batteries. Panasonic no longer makes these batteries. Can someone recommend replacement batteries (from the zillion copycat suppliers) that have a good reputation (and uses Panasonic cells)?
