I don't find either of the 2 examples to be candid, and both I find to be erotic. This is not my photo but I think this is a better example of a candid nude. She is not paying attention to the camera, 100% of her attention is somewhere else. If her attention would be redirected the next focus would be on her drink not the camera. if your model is looking at the camera and smiling, it is not candid. Posed photos can be artistic but not candid.

An artistic nude photo is one that the nudity is used to convey a message other than a sexual one. It can convey emotion or be used to highlight the human form. The model should be engaged with the environment and not the camera.
A porn image is one that is focused on genitals and shows the model and not much else. So a photo of a nude woman against a white background looking at the camera and/or legs wide, would most likely be considered porn.
But it is the intent of the photographer that decides whether it is art or porn. One can usually determine the intent by looking at the photo. Here's some examples of artistic nudes. There is nothing sexual about them.
Most art photographers take photos of both men and women. if you take only women you should consider your intent when trying to classify your photos. It is a murky topic and has some gray areas. But I think if you are trying to create art, not just look at nude girls you have a better chance of creating art.

I understand your indignation, but as I said, I like the photos: however, try to enplane your "ARTISTIC" intent and endeavors to a big burly New York City or San Francisco Cop. who may think he knows a perv when he see one... and later the judge who just earlier may have just sent an sex offender up the river.. I think doors are one thing but people's windows may be something else..I'm just saying ... BE CAREFUL.
No disrespect or ill intent on my part.... I had a cop give me the 3rd degree when I was trying to take some night photos of an old historical hotel in Holly and after taking all my "information" I was told to "move along boy.".. He was not a fan of the arts I guess.

In San Francisco it really isn't a problem. I do appreciate your caution. I don't know if i would get away with some of the things I get away with here anywhere else. San Francisco is really a liberal city and I've never been arrested, my rap sheet doesn't exist. I know because I had to get it to move in where I live now.

I was once in Oakland taking photos of reflections in the windows downtown. Once of them was Clorox headquarters and another was a major bank. Before I knew it I was surrounded by cops wanting to know what I was up to. I wasn't the least bit intimidated or afraid. I was a little nervous I can say but not enough for them to notice. I just looked at them and said very enthusiastically "look at the reflections, the city is in love with itself. We don't see these reflections in San Francisco. Do you want to see the pictures I've got?"
The reply was an eye roll and then "no that's ok, you're fine carry on. if anyone gives you a hard time, just tell them you talked to me and I said it was ok" and he gave me his name.
When they walked away I got on BART (I was done anyway) and laughed to myself.

I could have been staking out tall buildings as part of a plot to bomb them. I acted completely like a fool and they didn't hassle me. I have had several occasions when the police have stopped me when I was walking and each time I just be polite and answer their questions.

I don't break the law so they have had no reason to arrest me. I've had cops talk about their wive's cooking while running my name. I've had them refuse to look at my id when I offer it to them. I once had a cop want to frisk me for a knife. I refused. I offered him my backpack instead. He refused and said put it on the ground. I turned my pockets inside out for him. He still wanted to frisk me so I reluctantly agreed but told him to go fast because i don't like to be touched, He did. Then he said ok, take your things and go home. I went straight home and he followed me, I presume to make sure that's where I was going.

I was once walking down the street wearing literally only my sneakers. The cop told me I couldn't walk around like that. So I asked him what was the dress code and if he had any suggestions on what to put on. he said, very irritated with me, at least some shorts. So I took a pair out of my bag and put them on and asked if I was free to go. he said as long as you keep them on. I say I will. He drove away.

Maybe I am just lucky or something. But I am not afraid of cops, and I don't think their intentions are for protecting me. I just stay calm, be polite and respectful, answer their questions. And act a bit dumb. They kind of like me I think because I say yes sir , no sir, thank you sir. I always stay focused on what they want.

I find your study of window interesting, however; hasn't someone, or a cop, question just why you are taking pictures of peoples windows?

here's what I see in the photos in this set:

#1 is alseep
#2 see above
#3 a community where people are wide awake and watching, even the one with their eyes closed, maybe the snowflake is a security camera?
#4 they are pretending to be asleep but they aren't
#5 waking up early in the morning
#6 grumpy, sleeping and was just awakened by something that irritates
#7 naked
#8 a super model trying to avoid the popparazzi
#9 surprised or shocked
#10 an audience at a theater or opera

I hope that gives you insight and helps explain my reasons for taking pictures of windows, they aren't "other people's windows" they are other people

thanks. I like #2 the best If you read the answer I gave Dirty Harry above, you will understand why that is. It's because it shows that everyone is different but part of the same and that each of us is needed to make the picture. It also a celebration of diversity and individuality. If we were all the same see how boring it would be. Our differences make the whole picture interesting. Be who you are and don't hide it.

Please don't take this wrong, I mean not to be rude, but to tell you my views.

Do you understand the concept of art? Architecture as art? Perhaps what's interesting to me may or may not be interesting to you, it doesn't matter. Art is supposed to cause one to stop and think, even if just to ask what is it? Art can also cause changes in how you view something. It can create social change as well. I don't expect that photos of windows will cause social change or have a big impact on anyone's views, but just by asking your question, you have proved that my photos of windows are, in fact, art. They caused a feeling in you that was more than a passing "hmm" They caused enough feeling inside you that you took the time to type your question. That is what art is supposed to do. Art for art's sake is just that. Art that is created for its beauty to the artist and the end result will create a viewer response, positive or negative.

I could answer your question in another way which is a bit sarcastic, which is how I could interpret your question at first glance. I always look past my first glance when reading a comment or question that has been typed. The inflection is not clear using this type of media so when asking or responding I try my best to get the inflection across to the reader. This is only meant to show you how a question can be misinterpreted, so please read this as an answer you might receive, not my answer. Why do you question why and how an artist works and why a particular subject. Those are questions you should ask yourself when you look at the art. It, to me, is not a question I would ask an artist about their work. That said, my sarcastic answer would be "why? Would it be better if I took pictures of dog's windows? Or maybe dollhouse windows?"

You asked a question and I don't think you were being rude, I believe you were sincerely interested in the answer because you didn't understand the art. Which is why I gave you the answer I did first. My sincere answer, which is not sarcastic nor education, it is personal, which I think is the answer you are looking for. From an artist's standpoint this answer is not given because it would influence how the art is seen and the views should be personal not directed. I will tell you my secret which may change how you see the photos, and how you see me.

Personally I see windows as the eyes we collectively use to see the world. They are like our eyes looking back at us. In a way they are reflections of ourselves. They hide so much too. We hide behind them and consider them our person, our own property to be held not given. Just like we hide behind our eyes, we hide behind our windows. Windows are expressive too, they have moods, they can be happy, sad, angry etc. Taking pictures of them is a little like holding up a mirror to society, or, at least, the city I live in. I hope they cause you, the viewer, to stop and reflect on the beauty that is all around you and think of what they, the windows, tell you about you and how you see the world. My photos of windows are showing you how I see the world, maybe how I see you. They are showing you how we, as a society, look at each other. That's why I take photos of windows.
