Hey folks, don't you think it's time to put this one to bed. An "honest hypothetical" has turned into a taunting game that only the OP seems to be enjoying. Plus, every time one of you comments, I get another email. Please let it go so that the OP can laugh himself to sleep thinking he has won. Although I am fairly new here, the usual topics seem to be much more photography oriented and we should try to keep it that way. So go to sleep now and come back in the morning with a topic that is really helpful. Thanks and nighty night.

Check out my comment in the topic "Hypothetical Question regarding Sales Practice" in the forums. I am not the op. My comment is on page 4 under "tandemrider". I don't have an issue with purchasing grey market equipment as long as I know at the time of purchase that that is what I was getting and paying for.

Wow, I can't believe I came across this discussion as I had a similar issue myself. I was trading in a number of lenses that I no longer was using and was going to use the money toward the purchase of a Sony a7iii. Now we all know how difficult these cameras are to come across, but the used equipment salesman said he could get me a new one. I authorized the balance on a credit card. I was happy and felt very lucky until....

The delivery was made on time and I immediately opened the package. What I found was a used grey market model of the camera for which I had been charged the full retail price of a brand new U.S. version. I also noted that the Sony U.S. warranty card was not there. I was in touch with customer service who thankfully was honest and told me the camera was not new but was in perfect condition and would be covered by the store's 6 month warranty. This was one of the big NYC stores that are widely recommended by many.

I will tell you that the store was Adorama because in the end they took the camera back and refunded my money. It all turned out okay but I was shocked that a dealer with their reputation would do a thing like that. I have never had an issue with them and their customer service was excellent in getting things resolved. They even paid for the return shipping. At that time, the requested camera was not in stock. Because previous purchases from them went as smooth as glass, I am chalking this up to a one time snafu. In fact, I have since ordered from them again without problems.

I hesitated to actually name the store but felt that if others in this community have had issues with them, we all need to know. We already have an Abe's of Maine and don't need another.

So you guys are really great. I downloaded Camera Raw 10.4, converted the images to DNG, and lo and behold I can now use LR to edit or transfer the image to Luminar and everything works (duh!). I will probably go this route for a while but in view of some of the comments, I might give the subscription model a try also as well as giving the ON1 a trial for the free month. I don't think I will have to skip dinners to pay the $120/yr. Thanks so much for all your input. Ask and ye shall receive - at least in this case. Thanks again.

Absolutely. Waiting for Luminar. I can see Adobe gradually increasing their monthly fees over time so long as people continue to be willing to pay the price. I wonder how high they will go before people finally say they've had enough. In addition to the monthly fee, LR really is not the best editor for Fuji raw (RAF) files so it is time for me to bale.

Thanks for the reply but I was under the impression that the 6.14 update was to be the final update for my version of LR. Pardon my ignorance, but how would I go about updating ACR? Is ACR included with my copy of LR or would I have to download a separate ACR app? Appreciate the help.

I have been browsing the UHH website for some time but never registered and thus never posted a question. But it seems I have now run into a problem and need your help.

I have Lightroom on my computer (iMac) but it is the purchased edition (6.14) and not the kind that forces you to pay a monthly fee. All my previous cameras were able to download the RAW files to the library (DMA) including my Fujifilm XT-2. I recently decided to try FF and purchased the Sony a7iii. When I tried to import the Raw photos. they could not be downloaded to the library. Is that camera not supported" . Is Adobe forcing me to change to the monthly rental edition? Or am I doing something wrong? Is there a work around? I also have Luminar 2018 on the computer and they supposedly are going to be coming out with a DMA. What to do.

Having a back up camera for any important trip is always a good idea although it can certainly make for more fumbling. I am going on safari to Botswana the last two weeks in June. Way more important was the fact that several people and many articles have strongly suggested using two cameras with two different focal length lenses because the last thing you want to do is change lenses in the field. Supposedly there is a lot of very fine red dust that will get inside your camera and on the sensor if it is exposed. I am travelling with two Fujifilm X-T2's. One will have the 100-400 lens with 1.4 tc glued to it while the second will have the 50-140mm lens. These are crop cameras. I will also take along my 16-55mm lens depending on the day but I probably will not change lenses while riding in the vehicle. I might try using it for astrophotography back at camp. Take along your Giotto rocket blower - it will get plenty of use.

So with the advice of others who have made this incredible trip, it sounds like two cameras and two different focal length lenses are a must. Just remember your baggage weight allowance on any regional flights you might be taking.

Having just joined this group very recently, I notice that so many of the questions and much of the talk seem to revolve around Nikon. I was a Nikon shooter for many years, my last one was a D750 which was great. But I have now changed over to Fujifilm. I can honestly say that for 90+% of pictures, I can't tell the difference between the two systems. For BIF, they are close but the Nikon probably is easier to get better pics with.

I went with Fujifilm because I do believe that mirrorless will take over the flapping mirror cameras. And with Fujifilm, their lenses are specifically made for their APC sensors and are generally not quite as large or heavy as with other mirrorless systems. The lenses are also made of metal (like Leica) and not plastic like Canon, Nikon, and Sony. Fuji is also special in so far as they continue to provide firmware updates even for some of their cameras and lenses that have long been discontinued. When was the last time Nikon did that? They just want to sell you their latest model.

I am in no way trying to push any particular brand of equipment but I think people might be doing themselves a disservice by not checking out this system. Cameras can last for years so the small difference in price you might pay originally (within your budget) will be insignificant in a year or two. Just my two cents. Good luck with your choice.
