....My question, would you have done that or simply Photoshopped it in?

In my opinion you did it right. Photoshopping it in is OK too, IF I can't tell. Even though its a small detail the photo would be less interesting to me if I can tell it was altered in PP. The more I can see post processing (e.g. purple sky?) the less interesting it would be (no matter how 'dramatic' the sky looked). Nice pic by the way.

Cute but wholly unrealistic. A propaganda piece "justifying" the idea that the rich shouldn't be taxed because they're rich and therefor if we don't placate them they will … You fill in the blank. In reality the top three guys hire lawyer/accountants that make sure they get a free six pack, the bottom four get to share a beer, and the middle guys get to pay a third of the bill with the remainder going on an IOU for the grandchildren! Sorry but I won't be following the responses to this one

This kind of snobbery really is something I don like about these forums. It's very judgemental.

All I can do is picture you sitting there typing this...with your nose in the air.

To me its a matter of whether I would rather be a good photographer or a lucky photographer. Doesn't mean one can't utilize one of the auto modes, it just means if you do you should understand what it is doing to your photo. Otherwise its just a snapshot. But you could get lucky.

All three of the big shippers consistently do very well for me here in the suburbs of Central FL. Having worked for two of these services at some point in my life I will offer this advice. If you have a problem then make a complaint. Be respectful, concise and give complete details. If possible send a copy not only to CS but to the local delivery facility - the place where they load the delivery trucks - especially if the package is just a 'no show.' The point being that if there is a consistent problem there's probably someone who isn't doing their job as they should or a process that needs fixing.
If I don't want my package 'dropped' on my doorstep then I pick it up (preferred) or pay for signature service. Never had a shipment damaged by being dropped off. Nothing's for free and you get what you pay and....

Just my two cents.
Keep the change,
Court

My 2 cents: If it was me I wouldn't think of doing this without first taking some prep/practice shots using the actual location and equipment and ironing out any bugs before the big day. Discover any problems (you're dealing with a bunch of kids so there will be some) while you still have a chance to mitigate.

kskarma, Thank you for the excellent explanation. I certainly have some educating to do, self-educating that is. I understand about the problems you faced in that shoot having taken a few hundred film photos in our southwest deserts many years ago. After taking several years away from my photo hobby I'm now trying to jump back in. You've probably just doubled my 'digital' knowledge. Long way to go but it should be fun.
And I still think that is a great shot.
Thanks again,
Court

Hello all. It'll be obvious in a minute that I'm a newbie here but I just have to ask a question about this pic.
First, let me say I really like this picture. Great composition. If it just had a buzzard flying around somewhere it would be an overnight classic.
Now my question: When I zoomed in on the downloaded image there appears to be a lot of 'ghosts' in the detail. Is that from layering in Photomatrix? Or what? Will that show up in a print? As an old film photographer I would also have bracketed the shot but I would have also tried a fill flash to capture the shadowed detail. Is that a viable option in the digital/post processing era? And finally, what's HDR?

Thanks, Court
