My wife and I set rules for our household. We enforced them no matter who the children were that came over. As the kids grew they knew the rules at Uncle Hoss's house were different than at their own house tore it up at home but not when they visited.

Welcome to the forum.

I too live in Idaho (Boise Country), am retired, and made photography my retirement hobby. I have learned much on UHH.

A warning: while most (95%) UHH members are polite and respectful, a few are not. You can use the ”ignore” function to reduce what you see from them, but in most cases you should just ignore them. You invoke it be clicking on their name. It never helps to reply to them. And reporting as an issue doesn’t seem to help.

Enjoy!

Yeah, what he said. Welcome.

the ferry ride from Seattle to Bremerton. On a clear day that mountain sticks out like a sore thumb.

Hey guys, don't hold back and let me know what you really think!

I am of course very grateful for your immediate and impassioned feedback. That Nikon deal is officially toast. So at this point I will consider the suggestions I've received re: noise reduction, but I will also be looking at full frame Canons, and anyone who has any suggestions on that score is free to throw in their two cents.

I have a T1i and a 5DMkII. I was always very dissatified with my results from images when I had only the T1i. I 'thought' I was doing everything I could do but who knows. I wanted to go full frame for a long time and since I could use L lenses with the crop camera, I started by purchasing some better glass for my T1i. What a huge difference right there, I was doing most everything right with it. I don't think I will purchase another crop camera since I have gotten the full frame but what a huge improvement by using better glass. Try it with something used, if you don't like it, resell it pretty quickly and the only thing it would cost you is the shipping since you could sell it for what you paid for it. If you like it and what new, sell the used and buy a new one.

hpucker99, Thanks for the feedback. Talk about crazy, the workshop only includes one night (extra cost) in Yellowstone only, no other rooms available anywhere that I could find. So flying into Billings the day before the workshop, driving and staying one night in Cooke City the day before, the workshop and with little sleep, then drive to Billings the second day after the editing workshop, then early next morning back to Florida. Sleep ,ust be overrated. Gary

The last time we visited Yellowstone we based out of Bozeman, about 80 miles, and commuted into the park. it was much more reasonably priced for a room (less than $100). Livingston is also close to the park (close being a relative Montana term). Bozeman has a commercial airport and you should be able to fly in/out of there. From the west Idaho Falls has commercial air traffic as well. If I were coming from Florida, I would get to Bozeman/ Livingston a day early and then drive into the park and stay a night after. Plenty more to see than just the 24hrs in the park will allow you to see.

If you like wildlife photos, I assume you do with a 600mm, get to the Hayden Valley area early, stake out a spot along the road with your SUV and wait for the opportunities to come to you. My wife's mobility is more impaired than yours and we had a great time seeing the sights there. Don't let that hinder you.

I would change that to Lamar Valley not Hayden.

My experience from living in the Arizona desert was that it is more a matter of technique than equipment. Most of that typical wildlife photo technique. Moving slow, being quiet and frequenting areas that your subject frequents. No sense in looking for a penguin in New Mexico. Identify food sources near your new location and get there early and leave late.

All of these, as nice as they are, may be cropped too tightly for a maternity shoot. Subject and mother may want to include baby bump.

I lived down the road in Desert Hills, had friends in Black Canyon City and would drive by the Acres a few times a month. I never did figure out why they named it that.
