I like the idea that you have things around that beg to be in a photo...most people don't see it..
In the first one I think of Bigfoot....lol

Haha, that's so funny cause when I am outside at night and the dogs are barking.....I think of Bigfoot, too!! That's when I run into the house!
I know we have bears and coyotes out there.....not sure if I wanna know any more... ;P

Okay, so I am just starting out and I took these today. They are not original. I edited them in Picasa. Let me know what you think and PLEASE tell me if I am doing something wrong. I know NOTHING about photography yet and I am here to LEARN.
Thanks.

Tell another photographer that he can work on your ranch for a week if he will share his know-how (Which you obviously don't need, but you will get a ranch-hand for a week)

Hee hee, I wish I was on a ranch. As you can see, if you look closely, in the second picture, there is a 40 acre city park. Just the other side of a chainlink fence. :(

Glad to see you here on the forum, and welcome!
Might I suggest going to this link,to learn how to use your camera properly. There are lots of options to choose from.

Thank you very much. I ended up purchasing the D3100 for Dummies book. And at a great price! Also got me a hand strap. :)

Good stuff there, kmc. You have a good eye for composition. You'll be unstoppable once you learn that camera. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you Emmet! Hopefully I can get as good as the others on here.

I just received a brand new Nikon D3100 for Christmas and have NO CLUE how to work the thing. I am here to learn about aperture, ISO, composition, and all that fancy stuff. I also need help knowing which lenses are compatible, etc.

Any and all help will be appreciated. :)

Feels good to finally jump in.

Nice Avatar. Welcome to the HOG. I often say "shoot on automatic and then check the readings" It will tell you the ISO, the Apature, and speed of shutter". Later you can play with manual settings. Post some of your artwork and we can see what your doing.

Thanks. My Avatar was taken with a point and shoot at Baker Lake in Washington. Love the pic but hate the date stamp. I will start posting some pics. My only problem is that I don't get out much, so most photos have been taken inside. They're pretty boring, lol.

Thank you! Yes, Willow is a little charmer. Autumn, on the other hand, is not, lol. I am going to try to take some pics of them tomorrow. Wish me luck!
I think I will be on here a lot. I love this site. There are so many beautiful photos and do much information! I am very happy I found it. :)

Made a day trip out to see if I could find any mustangs and was lucky enough to find a few.

I lived in Oak Harbor 67 to 70 and at Pacific Beach from 73 to 76 and never know there were wild horses in Washington. Shame on me

I have lived here in Everett for all my life (since 68) and I never knew that either!! I've been missing out!

I like #2. I have a thing for old trucks. #1 does nothing for me. What's with the upper and lower black bar cropping? The structure looks interesting but you can't really see it. #3 is OK.

The old barn probably has great potential. Keep it up!

Well thanks!
Number 2 has a cinema effect added to it. Yes, it is an old building with LOTS of windows in it. I should get closer, it's just hard to get there. Everyone has a thing for old trucks, lol. ;P

Hey Russ,
thank you. That is an awesome idea. I didn't think of that. I will try that one tomorrow....if there's no rain. :)

Thank you Tracey! I am so nervous putting my pics on here....everyone else's pictures are so gorgeous. I am glad you like them. Ya, that first pic is just the "side" of our backyard. There is an old barn and building there.

Thank you! I was wondering if my post just wasn't showing up.
I know the truck "has been one before", lol. But not THIS truck. I was just trying out new things in Picasa.
Ya, I like the hose picture, myself.

Oops, I think I posted these in the wrong section. I would like people to critique my photos. This is the first time I have ever done this online. I am new to photography. Just got my first DSLR for Christmas. :) Nikon D3100.
These are some photos I took today outside my home. They are not originals. I used Picasa to edit them.
Please let me know how they are and if I might need to change things.
