We did sunset instead. I highly recommend that you consider that.

We were able to watch weather forecasts to avoid getting up there to have rain; were able to drive up in daylight; had plenty of time to explore and did not have to deal with the cyclists on the way down. There is also a lot more room to view the sunset.

I am thinking about buying Tamron 18-400 Has anyone had any experience with this lens. Is it worth $500.00 plus dollars? Please give some advice as I can buy a new one for $479.00 if I act fast.

I purchased on last year and at the same time bought a used Nikon 18-300 3.5/5.6. The Tamron was lighter and focused faster but the Nikon was smoother and, said Nikon on it. I used both for about a week and chose to keep the Nikon. If the zoom on the Tamron were a little smoother I’d have kept it instead. There was no discernible difference in image quality.

I keep at least one camera (preset for most parameters) on a nearby shelf set to allow me to grab it and go quickly in case of an unexpected photo opportunity. Have mixed feelings about a zoom vs. just a 50mm (FF) or 35mm (Crop). What do you favor?

Rick, my lens does exactly the same thing. What do you think it will take to fix?

This is a failure in the image stabilizer. It could be either a damaged ribbon cable that connects the stabilizer unit to the main circuit board or it could be a defective stabilizer.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the lens for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

The first three categories are sad, but legal and in the case of veterans, a choice made by themselves. The last category is illegal governmental over-reach. That's not media hypocrisy. The media cannot do anything about the first three categories. But they can sure blow the whistle on the last one. And yes, this discussion is in the wrong place. But as long as it is here, the question must be answered.

How is the last category illegal? Show me a single example, here or anywhere in the world that children are allowed to go to jail with their parent.

It’s not a flag, it’s a picture of a flag. Big difference.

I have $1000 to 1200 to spend on a camera and lense which is not a bunch. Open to all options new, used, refurbished. I would rate myself as an amateur who just knows enough to be dangerous. Just to give you an idea of what I have found on my own is a Nikon D7200 with a 28-140 lense.

I would like to have some input on a top 10 list in order of importance of what people look for in a camera and lense on a budget

I can’t give you a top 10 but I can tell you that I have the D7200 and love it. I got mine as a refurb from Adorama for $700. I also have a collection of decent Nikkor glass including 70-200 2.8, 200-500, 18-300 3.5-5.6 and several fast primes. My “everyday” lens is my 18-200 3.5-5.6VR. Paid $700 for it many years ago but you can find them for $200 on eBay. So, $900 get you the D7200, the 18-200 and a few hundred to spend on something else.
