This one of those fabulous photos that show how important lighting is to the beauty of the picture.
An incredible picture that you captured at the right place and at the right time.

Nice picture. The black background makes the flower pop.
The picture would benefit from some cropping.
1. Eliminate the leaves at the bottom, all they do is distract from the flower.
2. Crop the upper part to tighten up on the flower and the leaves just below it.
Try these and see how it looks.

Spectacular! Photos of this quality, color or black and white, are exceptional.
A great set - subject - composition - sharpness!
Carlysue,
I really appreciated your comment about the "Sunset" picture I posted to UHH a couple years ago.
Your compliments have encouraged me to start posting again. I have spent a lot of time sorting through a mountain if pictures, and have picked about 50 for UHH - for both the general and birds sections.
I'll start posting in a week or so. Then 2 or 3 a week.

Backyard fire for roasting marshmallows.
We've seen many good sunset photos, but this one is superior. You were in the right place at the right time, and took advantage of it.
In the early days of flight these lights were spaced far apart as beacons to establish flight paths. They kept the pilots on the route and kept them from getting lost. Most are gone now. Could this be a remnant of that system?
There are lots of wonderful shot son this site. This one is magnificent. The setting, mood, color, and your composition are exceptional.
Imagination can often produce wonderful results.
These are superb!
Excellent set in a beautiful area.
Lighting is key for these kinds of pictures. 8 and 9 are still good pictures, but without the special lighting, they don't
have the same attraction as the others.
An exceptional capture of our national bird. I'm sure glad Ben Franklin was talked out the turkey for his choice.
I appreciate all the info. I was able to do the conversion easily with DPP.
