The government of the United Kingdom declared war on the Empire of Japan on 8 December 1941, following the Japanese attacks on British Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong on the previous day as well as in response to the bombing of the US fleet at Pearl Harbor.

90,332 British troops were casualties in the war against Japan, of which 29,968 died and 12,433 were held as prisoners of war.

It seems to me we also helped you as well!!!!

The Brits responded AFTER their colonies were attacked by surrendering. They surrendered to the Japanese without a fight. Big help indeed.

This thread and it's author is still here? Why? The "jokes" weren't funny. Grahams lame excuse that he was "just the messenger" and the "jokes" came from American comedians doesn't alter the fact that the OP was stupid, offensive and unnecessary. And to top it off he blasts one of us with such words as "stupid c***t". You're 82 years old, Graham? You're old enough to know better. Your skin is fit for anything? That's a lie. I don't know know about Charlie and his ugly wife, Camilla, but his mother most certainly would not have approved.

You made a cock up in Vietnam though didn't you and the withdrawal from Afghanistan

EZ does it, Graham. That was uncalled for.

My first was a D3300 which I still have, then I got the D5600. I use the D3300 with my microscope.

Thanks to another hogger I found this location, which is only 30 minutes from where I live. So I have been visiting it several times this last year. I wish I could remember your name so I could thank you. Hopefully you will know who you are and know that I appreciate your help finding this place.

Might have been me, Dave, though I don't remember doing that. I'm a fellow Lone Rockagian (small world) and I've been to the mill many times. The last time I was there there were sandhill cranes in a nearby field, so I spent more time capturing those scenes than I did on the mill. Great captures btw.

All the old farts who are stuck in the Imperial system will be gone soon so now is the time to switch. Us UHHers have been dealing in metric in our photography for years so why complain about using it for everything else. I think some ancient large format lenses produced in “olde England” or in the U.S. probably had focal lengths measured in inches, but that was it.

i'm one of those old farts of whom you speak and I'm here to tell you it's not very nice to tell me I'll be gone soon. But until then I will stick with the Imperial system.

I'm going to borrow that, but I'll make some changes. All three politicians will be from America.

Hannibal, MO was the boyhood home of Mark Twain. I've got a picture of it we took when traveling through many years ago.

My first was an Agfa which I took with me to Nashville to go to the Grand Ole Opry with a bunch of guys in Feb. 1957 at the Ryman. When the show was over it was raining hard so we ran for the car. I was in the lead and running the fastest when a guy jumped out from a bar exclaiming "No trooper is going to take me in". I couldn't stop and hit him like an NFL linebacker but he didn't go down. It broke my camera and I was a bit angry. A woman came out of the bar and said "Don't mess with him, he's dangerous" By this time the guys I was with caught up. We decided she was probably right.

On the recommendations to my query (see https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-680481-1.html) I bought the Epson V600 and can attest that it solved my problems with scanning old B&W negatives. I use Vuescan with it, but the Epson software works very well too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I should have shown another scan and inverted negative using same method as the first image I posted. Here it is. Much better than most of the scans. There are a few like this one that seem to be OK.

The striations look more like scratches rather than dirt. What are you using to scan and what software are you using to invert? For cleaning I use a Rocket blower and PEC pads. For extremely dirty negatives I use PEC12 sparingly. I do take a scan prior to using PEC12 as it can easily make the situation worse.

I'm using a flat bed scanner and PS Elements to invert. The striations aren't dirt, but they aren't scratches either.

I have a lot of old family B&W film negatives that I want to invert, but many of them, after inverting, show up like these. What can I do to clean them up and remove the lines vertical and horizontal? I have used lens wipe and isopropol alcohol on a few which has cleaned up smudges, fingerprints, etc. but the striations? are still there.
