Has anyone ever purchased used film cameras or any camera from National Camera Exchange? I collect film cameras and there is one I need for my collection at National Camera Exchange.
Thank you, Ron

Ron, i have a Minolta film camera and a 135mm telephoto and a wide angle lens for it and also a flash unit. I would have no idea what to charge for them. I would sell them to you if your want them. oh it has a 50 mm on it.

First off, if the lens is 28 or 35 mm focal length, it won't be a wide angle on your Rebel 5i. Because of the crop factor, 1.6x, it will give you the effect of a 45 or 55mm lens. This is "normal", not wide angle. Plus, the adapter would also increase the crop factor somewhat.

Program mode will accomplish nothing. Neither will aperture priority. You need to use Manual mode, setting the aperture on the lens where desired and doing stop-down metering, adjusting shutter speed to give correct exposure. You can use different equivalent f/stop-shutter speed combinations to get more or less depth of field, slower or faster speed for stopping action, if needed......

ok, thank you for your reply. I probably will just let it go, i dont really need a wide angle, just wondered if i could use the old one. If i really want one i will buy a new one for my canon. thanks for taking the time to reply.

Right, he shouldn't use Program Mode.

The camera can't set the aperture--but it also knows it can't (it checks for the lens
electrical connection). To find out what Program mode will do in that situation,
one would have to look at the firmware source code (fat chance) or call Canon.
But why try to use a broken mode?

Aperture priority mode might work, provided he sets the aperture manually
and selects the same aperture in the camera. But basically, he'll be shooting in
manual mode--like every photographer who lived before the 1970s.

It's called a "manual transmission". That's what that stick between the seats
is for.

oh, that brings up a question i did not think of _ say i get an adaptor to fit my lens ( I will check the brand later tomorrow, i dont want to go upstairs to check right now) - to review the lens is a wide angle for my old film camera - a film Minolta - my curent camera a Canon EOS5i, what mode would i use - manuel? as mentioned above or aperture priority, or program?? Thanks for all the advise. I probably wont get the adaptor but just wondering. I am saving pennies for a macro i can use with flowers. i am a retired house wife who does not go hiking or mountain climbing but hoping to go to Acadia NP next spring with hubby. I am very far from an expert but just learning how to use my 5i. Thanks again for helping me.

Buy the lens. By the time you experiment with legacy lenses and adapters, you could very well be close to the cost of a new lens. Best of luck.

Ok, but who would buy a lens like that and how much would i charge - I have no clue. I dont know how to use e bay. Guess I could try Craigs list??? I dont really want a wide angle lens but just wondered if it was worth it to get an adaptor. What i really want is a macro. anyone want my camera ( I have 2) and the lenses? I wouldnt even know what to charge for them. they are film cameras I have a flash attachment also for them.. Im just a retired housewife interested in taking good pictures. Little by little im learning by reading and using my camera. I enjoy reading this forum and have learned a lot , and yu guys take awesome pictures.

You may be able to do that but it's not worth it. One thing for sure it will not autofocus. You're better off buying a used wide angle lens made for the Canon.

Im not worried about the manual focus Ive been doing that when i take some closeups of flower. I just want to know if i can get good or at least fairly decent pictures with an adaptor thanks

I have an old camera i got years ago - a Minolta when i first got interested in slr cameras because they took so much better pictures than my old Kodak!! i learned a little bit about f stops and shutter speed but didnt keep up with photography, I now have a Canon EOS 5i and am slowly learning about using it - my main interest is flowers and landscape cuz i dont get out much. But my question is can i use a wide angle lens and a 135mm lens on my Canon camera with some kind of adapter to fit it onto my Canon? And will it take good pictures. I have a 135mm for my Canon but would like a wide angle lens, but dont want to buy one. What i really want is a macro lens but that is on the back burner. I just wondered how the other lens would work on my Canon. I dont know the brand of the lenses but they are not Minolta lenses, will check later for the brand. Thanks for any info.

I know a lot of people post pics of sunflowers but on close up they are amazing. I have 2 growing in my yard.I planted several seeds and only one came up it is over 6 feet tall but the flower is not all that big, I thought it would be one of those mamouth flowers but it isnt, but still very pretty. the other one came up from stray or spilled sunflower seeds from the bird seed. Here they are: The first two are from the tall one, the last one is from the stray seed, its about 4 feet tall

We have several Buddleia on the grounds, and they are visited by a couple Hummingbird Hawk-Moths.
I don't have a macro lens, nor would I stand a hope in hell to get close enough with the nifty fifty. Those bushes are a good 8 meters high.
So I did the best I could with the Tamron 70-300 A17E -- not the clearest, best lens, but the one I could get closest with.
Now, those moths are small, extremely fast, and flit around just like a hummingbird. (They also make a humming noise)
Trying to get shots of them is difficult.
If anyone knows a way to improve the shots (I can try again) please let me know. :)
Camera is Canon 6D, Tamron 70-300 (on the 300 setting with macro turned on), ISO was on auto, AV setting, daylight / shade exposure (depending on shot) sun was setting and rather bright still (at 8pm!), I shot on F4 as well as F6.3. I later switched to TV and shot on 1/1250 to get the wings, because otherwise they are simply a blur.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

i am far from being an expert and actually only a novice, but someone who takes a lot of pictures told me she uses at least a shutter speed of at least 1600 or more for anything that has wings. I did it with one of those moths in my yard at the Bee Balm. The results were pretty good IMO> i really like the second picture and also the last one of your pictures.
