Forgot to mention - Shot raw with Nikon D800 and Nikkor 500mm.

Shot at ISO 160, 1/320, F8, at 700mm (500mm pf telephoto w/1.4 extender). Color balance set at 4600k. I shot a few dozen shots experimenting with moon settings prior and I liked this WB setting. All I did was brighten the image slightly in post.

This one taken in West Los Angeles. Nikon 800D with 500mm PF and 1.4 extender. Original photo, not composite. I was distracted for a moment after taking shots of the Blue moon and barely noticed silhouette of plane crossing through frame. I saw another plane inbound, far away on same flight path and wondered what are chances it will cross moon at same spot as earlier plane? I figured no way given its distance and precise trajectory required. But I waited to see if it would come close and surprisingly it passed exactly where previous plane had crossed. I got three shots off, the middle one attached.

If you are getting an 850 next year, Nikon recommends the Gold Ring lenses for that body. I believe only the 58mm 1.4 is a Gold Ring lens. Good luck.

With a D850 stay with Nikon Gold Ring series of lenses.

Nikon recommends using their “gold ring” lenses on the 850 to reap the benefits of the camera’s technology. They have superior coating etc. I recently acquired the 58mm 1.4. Expensive, but if you have an 850, then I guess you might be willing to spend some funds on glass. I sold my 50D 1.4 and went for the 58mm. I have an 800D and love the soft focus BG I get at 1.4 on the 58mm. Unlike any other 1.4 lens I have owned.

10k slides? That will take months... 50 per day - 250 per week - 1000 per month - almost a year of nearly full time scanning. I’d go nuts. Send them to scancafe.com.

I committed long ago to Apple’s Aperture as my photo editor of choice. A couple of years ago Apple stopped supporting it. Has anyone made the transition from Aperture to Lightroom that can comment on the process? Is learning curve on LTR challenging? Can you migrate your library with ease? I like Aperture and still use it but suspect that soon it will stop being compatible with camera software.
