The other night we had a major storm blow through and the associated lightning was amazing. I’m interested in hearing suggestions for the best methods to capture images of lightning. Are there smart trigger like Miops or others that would make the process easier? Any thoughts about settings and or suggested equipment compatible with a D850 would be appreciated. Years ago in my film shooting days I would just use a low ISO film and the bulb setting. I got a couple of successes over the years but I’d like to improve my success rate. I’ve got a trip scheduled for mid September in the UP and figure somewhere during the week I’ll likely have an opportunity to capture a storm over Lake Superior.

Get the Pluto Trigger. It does lightning and much much more!

I shoot RAW exclusively and adjust hilight/shadows in Light Room. This image would be a simple fix to brighten the shadow area to the opposing side level.

Pardon the cheap Halloween reference.

Hi All,
For the following image I used a Nikon D850 with a Nikkor 14-24 ISO100 f/14 1/160sec. Is there a better lens that has less lens flare? is there a technique I can use to reduce it?
I read somewhere that the 20mm f/1.8 has very little flare.
Here is the image that would have been much better without the flare.

1st -You won't find a better lens than the 14-24 Nikkor
2nd- When I shoot into the sun which I do often because I love the effect, I shoot several images from the same set up but slightly moved up-down-right -left incase flare is overwhelming. Then I fix it in post.
Great Image by the way!

It's actually a 30mm canon "Gatling" gun in the nose. When you look at it straight on it is offset, I believe because of the torque it produces! Great aircraft!

It is offset because only the barrel on the centerline of the aircraft fires as it rotates!

Try viewing each channel "RGB" in Photoshop and see which one has the most detail! Increase the contrast in that channel in type and/or use channel mixer to increase the lettering on the headstone.

In sports photography a little motion blur (hands-Feet etc.) conveys a feeling of action and is sometimes desirable if done right. Increase your ISO and shutter speed to find the right balance of stopping motion on your main subject, If that happens and hands etc. blur a little thats fine! In aviation photography you don't want to freeze the propeller....

Ooops....Forgot a step! In PhotoShop goto Edit/Assign or Convert to ICC Color Profile your print house will be using. Here is an explanation of what each one does! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J41LqjxyY1c

On your iMac go to System Preferences/Displays/Color and then "Option Click" on Calibrate. Select "Expert Mode". This will allow you to adjust your monitors Luminance/Gamma and White Point. Name and save the monitor profile you just created. That should get you close to a balanced monitor profile. Once that is done you need a set of print profiles from your printer which will be loaded into PhotoShop and you can select the print profile depending on the photo paper and printer they are using for your prints. With all that done your screen and prints should look the same.
Cheers

First file is named " 655776-lr_adjusted_4890.jpg"! Was this moire effect evident before it was adjusted in LightRoom? Was it in the RAW file originally? Do you batch process all files on import? Could be a software/hardware anomaly as well. Has it happened before or after this shoot?
