Is a White card/Grey card necessary with newer DSLR cameras? If so any recommendation?

You know, you can use green grass or a cloudless sky.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful and helpful response. i truly appreciate it. And if you think the house is okay that is all I was mainly concerned with. Thank you for instructing me on how to do a proper crop.

First, what are you trying to accomplish? Your picture of the house is quite nice, the composition not so much! You have way too much foreground that is way underexposed (to the point that it becomes the subject of the picture! If you want to showcase the house, you have to make it the one thing that stands out (everything else in the pic should take on much less weight, if any at all. Also, find different angles to shoot from, show certain parts of the home that carry special interest, walk around the premise to find all the important views, that trigger responses from viewers, to make them wish to see mote! It takes a bit of time to think this through and to find your best compositions, but that time invested will prove worth the time! Good luck, take your time, don't rush it!

Thanks for all the help guys. It was taken around nine in the morning. It was not a real estate shoot..... sort of. it was me practicing. I would rather mess up when I'm not being paid for it.

I know it is not good. How could I take this so it is great? I'm thinking darken the sky. What about the colors of the house. Darkening the exposure would take care of that too I think. Am I thinking correctly? That would be increasing shutter speed and a smaller aperture? Would that be a faster or slower ISO? What else could I do to improve it?

no...... that is why I wasn't too concerned with that. The ISO is what I was concerned with.

I'm trying to get into real estate photography. I bought a course for it (http://lightingforrealestatephotography.com/) and in it Scott Hargis says to set iso to 320 and the aperture to 7.1 . Why do you think that is? Why wouldn't you set iso to 100 and the aperture to 8? I'm not too concerned with the aperture setting but am curious about why the iso.

I wonder if I had gotten high end lenses for the d3200 would have resulted in sharp images.

I thought my d3200 was sharp and took offence when told otherwise. Then I got an a7r2 with GM lenses. All I can say is, WOW.

Activating Back-Button Focus
1. Choose Menu > Custom Settings > Pre-AF > Off
2. Choose Menu > Custom Settings > Custom Key Settings > AEL Button > AF On.
3. Choose Menu > Custom Settings > Custom Key Settings > AF/MF Button > AF/MF Ctrl Toggle.
4. Choose Menu > Custom Settings > AF w/shutter > Off.

Once you do this, AF will no longer be active when you press the shutter release. Instead, press the AEL button to focus. The shutter button still wakes up the camera with a halfpress, and fires the shutter with a full press.

PLEASE NOTE that in order to select the focus point using the Smart Remote Control app, you must turn AF w/shutter back ON.

Once you’ve set up Back-Button AF, leave the first three settings alone. You only need to change one setting to switch Back-Button AF off and on:

Choose Menu > Custom Settings > AF w/shutter > On/On.

Just remember that this setting refers to normal focusing, so for Back-Button AF: On is Off and Off is On.
