I use a Black Rapid sling strap with my D810 and Sigma 150-600 Sport - 8.5 lbs

I also use a Black Rapid sling with my Canon R5 and 100-400 with 1.4X and adapter.
I connect it to my RRS base plate with a RRS quick release. That way I can get it off my sling and onto a tripod in seconds. The camera rides nicely on my hip and is easy to walk with - and I can bring it to my eye in a second.
Black Rapid now sells the sling with a RRS quick release. You may have to hunt for it on their website. I had to cut my old Black Rapid and resew it with the RRS quick release.

I'm looking for recommendations on a model release app that I can use on my Samsung cell phone.
Simple for me to use, and understandable for the signer.

Thanks...

I recently had a WD Passport fail. It spins - but won't connect. It had a number of processed images on it. I keep my raw images on a separate drive so I can recreate the finals if needed.
It finally prompted me to by a Synology 4 bay hard drive solution. It has 4, 6TB spinning hard drives. It's set up so if one drive fails, the data is recoverable. It cost about $1K in total.
I will also back up critical files (customer images) in the cloud as a second backup.

If you are thinking of a drobo, then forget it and look at Synology - industrial, scalable NAS at affordable prices. Better company, great support, no reason to consider second best. No, I don't own one, but if I did that would be the one. I've installed a dozen of them for friends and colleagues, and I only have great things to say about them.

But this is not a backup solution - it is redundancy. A proper backup solution involves a bit more. Too much to go into here - but if you google "what is a good backup strategy" you'll learn a lot.

Thanks Gene51.
It does look like Synology is a better solution.
Any recommendation on sizes/models? Or types of drives? Seagate vs. WD?
Synology offers a "photo" organization/catalog program. Not really what I need as I use Capture One for editing and organizing.

I'm looking for the NAS to do 2 things:
1. Make and keep/store a current copy of what's on my laptop hard drive. (1 TB)
2. Be a place to store older photos (processed and raw) in 2 separate places (not on my laptop) in case one drive fails. Probably 4TB of data currently. I see this growing to 8TB.

Thanks

I'm looking for suggestions on a file storage solution. (Like a Drobo).
I'm thinking 2 separate hard drives - plus a third drive just for backup. I'm ready to spring for solid state drives.
Or maybe the backup is in the cloud.

Thanks...

If you carry a second body as a "backup", it should be the same as the primary.

I took this statement to heart and bought a second R5 body.

I just put my 5D3 and EF lenses up for sale: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-722245-1.html

I was disappointed with the Gen 1. Sold it and got a Canon 100-400.
I heard the Gen 2 was much better.

You will really want the 100-500. Lighter, shorter, further reach, and no RF adaptor necessary.

Thanks Scubadoc - have you tried this lens? Does it work with a 1.4X adapter?

I have a 5D3 and the R5. I kept the 5D3 as a backup for client photoshoots. The problem is that I also have to carry along my old EF lenses - so it's not just carrying an extra body.
I decided to sell the 5D3 and all my EF lenses (except the 100-400) and get a second R5 body.

Lens hoods are great for protection. Plus they make you look cool cause you have a monster lens.
However in my case, the lens hood was backward over the lens in the bag.
