I use OP/TECH products and find them very comfortable and secure. I prefer the "Dual Harness." It can easily be configured to support two cameras, one left and one right; or one camera (left, right, or center). It is a two-point anchor system, one at each carry lug. I like having the tripod mount free.

I have paired the OP/TECH dual harness with the PEAK DESIGN Anchor links. I find this the easiest, fastest, safest disconnect system available.

I carry a D500 and D810, and sometimes one or two Bronica GS-1 (medium format) cameras without fear or fatigue.

Although I have not mixed the two companies anchors I concur. I have used products from both without complaint that includes everyrhing from M4/3 gear up to an ancient Nikon 600mm f8. The both make great items in my experience.

Living most of my life in Oregon, the nations largest lumber producer, we know of this well. It’s no fun and unhealthy. Hope you folks back there get a good breeze soon. In the mean time be as cautious as you can.

I don't have any problem with your "behavior"
My understanding, and I've done a lot of reading on the subject, is that dinosaurs were "reptilian" but not reptiles. And pterodactyls were "reptilian", but also not reptiles. And birds are a result of a direct branch of the same tree that produced dinosaurs and pterodactyls.
I'm not arguing with you or your son and I could be wrong. It happened once so I always knew I could be again!
My curiosity is always sparked by such things, but I know that my understanding is not always perfect!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked my photos!! And, not an intrusion by any means!!

First off thanks for the tolerance of my ramblings. Second, I have no training in this area of science. I did 30+ years as a firefighter paramedic so I lnow what will do you in two hrs or less and understand structural engineering and the chemistry of fire but nothing of this sort. Fortunately our son is not bothered by my ignorant questions. He teaches evolutionary biology and some virology so he answers tons of questions all day long.

I often get confused by what our son is saying so I certainly could have misspoken on some of the details I was trying to relate. I am certain that he did call dinosaurs reptiles. He was describing the difference between the hip structure of a reptile versus a pterasaur. There was some other difference along with the hips but that the hips are the clincher.

Thanks, you got me to get a tiny bit of education that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Have a good evening down there.

Talked to our son about pelican lineage. He says modern birds are descended from pteradactyls but pterodactyls are not dinosaurs. Those are diffent groups. Dinosaurs are all reptiles. Teradactyls are pterosaurs. So two different groups. Sorry for the intrusion but you sparked my curiosity.

Regardless of my behavior your images are great.

Good job. Outstanding effort. They always look prehistoric to me like pterodactyls. I’m gonna call our son who studies mostly mammal dna for evolutionary research.

Looking for thoughts on an Amalfi Coast itinerary; 4-6 days
* April 2024
* Current thinking of train from Rome (via Naples) to Sorrento
* No plan to visit Naples; already visited.
* No intention to rent a car
* Thoughts on a good base including options other than Sorrento for visiting Positano, Capri & Ravello etc.
* Best travel options getting around the coast (buses, ferry, train etc.)
* Good locations for photography; including best coastal shots (inland and seaward) high above the towns; although accessibility look arduous.

I have not been there, but our daughter spent a year of her college time in Rome. Most weekends sge would spend in the south. She said she always took a bus without any issues.

You know, my "keeping up with the Jones's" idea only extends so far and I never have been opposed to anything because of its age.

In the last 15-ish years I have owned a D 5000, a D 7100, and a D 750. The first two were purchased as refurbs and the 750 was purchased (gently used) from a dear friend to fund the purchase of a Z7. All of these cameras are still alive and well although I gave the D 5000 to my oldest son some years ago.

Also, there is only one lens out of the six that I currently have that was purchased new. It was an 18-55mm VRII whose predecessor was destroyed when the D 7100 took a four foot fall in St. Thomas.

Makes sense to me. The only body I have that was purchased new is a Nikon F Photomic I bought in 1970. Lightly used works for me too. Have fun.

You can take the boy out of California but you can't take California out of the boy. I enjoy that fact that I can reduce, reuse, and recycle and only people that have more money than brains pay full retail just to say that they did. I have more toys to acquire. lol

I’m with you on purchasing lightly used, properly working items. Saves a ton.

Oh it’s OK. You’ll enjoy it. I don’t own that one but its predecessor the 80-200 f2.8D push pull. It is decades olds now and it is very satisfying. I suspect you’re going to wind up quite satisfied with mine’s successor. Have fun.

Yes, but if Oregon follows Newsomeville you will be out of luck with the snow in a power shortage with an electric snowblower. Everything you mentioned relies on electricity and your GAS powered generator will have to assist you.

You misunderstood. The blower is a gas engine (clear always). An yes we have both a 6500W and 3500W generator. Of course that requires fuel availability. Our electricity is through a coop and have always been highly diligent and responsive. But they rely on BPA so there’s that.

As to Newsome, there’s an old saying here that most have forgotten, “Don’t Californicate Oregon”. Not meaning to offend anyone with that bit of local history, it’s just the truth.

Me too but nowadays we have gas powered snowblower, no typewriter but a computer, a couple powersaws, a drip coffeemaker but still an underground copper landline that’s for dsl. Birds of a feather. Take care.

I like to control my dof and shutter speed for blur, freeze, hence I find floating iso to be fantastic invention. If displeased with the suggested iso it’s no big deal to tweak it a bit. I often use full manual though, as like many here I grew up that way.

All that architecture you’re going to see isn’t gonna blow away while you’re contemplating your methodoly. It’ll still be there when you make your choice. Hope you have a great experience there.

That is a very nice choice indeed! I’m really liking the features on the OM-1 especially with the high res hand hold option. My spine sends mixed messages to my fingers and sometimes they work and sometimes they quiver. I love handholding my camera over using the tripod too. Good luck with your new gear, I hope to see some pics!!

Given your situation I think you’ve made a wise anf fruitful choice. My physical issue is different (acute calcific arthritis) that attacked shoulders, wrists and hips. Having used Nikon F mount gear for over 50 years it was a difficult thing to do but I’ve largely switched to Oly gear for most of the time.

I went even smaller and went with the PenF and two pro lenses, the 7/14 and 12/40. What a pleasant surprise. I was told the rig would be unbalanced. I now disagree with that assessment. All works fine.

I hope you find your choice of Oly as great as I have. Image quality is superb in my view. Good luck.
