The pool table is 8' long. This is just a couple I have printed on my Canon iPF-8400.

Don't even think about it. You need at least a ND16 or more. You will fry your camera and you eye and still not get any pictures. Both of my cameras will have ND16 filters and using snapbridge to view what the camera is seeing.

I am going to try to take a solor eclipse picture April 8th. Since I have never tried to take a picture of the sun I needed to pratice. Got a pretty good photo using the topics already that have been posted. The problem I am having will seem so dumb but I hope someone will be able to help this old man. I am having a diffucult time finding the sun in the view finder. With the dark sun filter until the sun is actually visible it of course is black. I can find it but it takes me a long time very slowly moving the camer back and forth and up and down to locate it. I am hoping someone has a good starting point that will help me find it faster. I guess my 80 year old eyes are just really poor. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I hope this setup works.

My yesterday post got me thinking. Back in about 2004 a friend of mine was into sports photography and I notice he had a gun site mounted on his camera and asked why. His response was "it allowed him to have both eyes open so he could have a better feel to what was happening" I bought a EOTEC gun sight and the results were night and day.
So I went digging around a box of parts and was able to find a mount that I could mount the solar sight to.

Here is what I use. It's small and will fit in the palm of your hand. I take a couple rubber bands and strap it to my lens. Here is a link.

I recently purchased a Nikon Z8 and am interested in a remote shutter release that will reduce possible shaking during shooting and also provide for an intervalometer function. I have looked at many on Amazon and elsewhere but so many of them seem to have so many poor reviews for reliability and quality. I would appreciate input that other Hogs may have had with various remote shutter controls that are compatible with the Z8 (many of the ads for remote devices when I Google them do not seem to be up to date on applicability to the Z8. I have to presume that if it has the 12 contact device or is listed as working on the Z9, it must also work on the Z8, but I may be wrong.)

Thank you.

Scotty

The Nikon MC-36A it's a wired connection and a Nikon WR-R11a it's remote. Use them on my D850, D6, Z8 and Z9. The Z9 has a menu item that does Interval timer shooting. Haven't check it out on the Z8. Check them out at Nikon and see if they will do what you need.

Buy an ND16 90mm or 95mm with step up rings. The step up rings will allow you to use the filter on all your lenses.

I saw on the link for the film everyone likes that it appears to be nd5. Would a regular nd filter 5 or above work? I read the website for the film. It states it's nd5. So am I correct to think I can use my nd filters?

I use ND16 when shooting the sun.

I use SnapBridge to do download my Z9s to my iPAD. Was not sure about the Z8 so I did a search using the following in the search bar. "Can snapbridge connect to a nikon Z8" and got the following.

To connect your Nikon camera and phone using SnapBridge, you need to:
Download and install the SnapBridge app to your Android phone or tablet, or iPad or iPhone.
Open the camera’s menu and select Bluetooth.
Open SnapBridge on your phone.
Select your camera.
Start the search.
Connect the camera and phone.
Connecting a Z series camera to a compatible smartphone or tablet using the SnapBridge app is simple. Just download the app onto your iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod touch or smart devices running on the Android operating system and follow the prompts to pair the camera via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi2.

I have been wanting to move to mirrorless. I need to be able to photograph animals in low light, so also considering getting Nikkor 70-200 2.8. I have been using Canon 7D Mark II for years, with L lenses, and to me, it has been OK but not great. But I have zero experience with Nikon of any sort. A bit concerned about weight, too, as that lens weighs quite a bit.

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Especially those of you that actually own a Nikon Z8....

Been using Nikon since the D1. Own the Z8, Z9 and the 70-200 2.8 S lens. The major difference for me is the battery life even with the MB-N12 battery pack. I get around 400 shots on the Z8 and over 2800 on the Z9 with a single battery charge. Why do I own both the Z8 and the Z9 is because the Z8 is lighter and has a smaller footprint. Getting old and on occasion not being able to use a tripod, out comes the Z8. Shoot a lot of High School sports and lighting is poor but I see very little difference between the Z8 and the Z9 and with post processing I am happy with the results. I haven't done a comparison shot between the two cameras.
