I just purchased a Nikon D500 camera from KEH camera that looks like new. A friend recommended this camera and KEH. I want to get a back up battery. Any recommendations for off brand batteries, other than Nikon or should I stay with the Nikon battery?? Thank you.

Although this topic has been reviewed & commented on by thousands over the years here at Ugly; just pony up the $$$ and buy a camera brand if you like long-life batteries that simply "work," in the clinch...

In the past I convinced myself more is better, and my focus has always been to cover all the bases. That meant struggling with a heavy back pack for the tsa checks at the airport, and the weight of an additional Pelican case to accommodate all of the heavy lenses. Walking endlessly to find a taxi make matters worse.

This will be something new for me... A Nikon Zf mirror-less body, Z mount 28mm f/2.8, 40mm f2.0 and the versatile 24-120 f4 zoom lens.

Compact, simple, Image stabilized and a lot of new mirror-less features I will soon learn to appreciate when I travel.

Have a nice time!
I am convinced I can capture images at the same level as when I carried a hundred pounds of equipment years past. I will be sure to post a few results in the main topic forum soon... Just kidding

I also spelled Traveling with two LL's in the caption to see if I get scolded, that's always a fun way to add extra pages to the post!

Keeping my Canon gear but also looking forward to a new level of freedom when I travel and also when adding in serious work.

I have a Mac that I just cannot get used to. I am going back to a Windows laptop. I am asking for help in which is best for photography, specifically. Especially how big space wise I should buy. I will be placing images on external hard drive but would still like to have a larger capacity laptop to hold edited images. I am interested in Dell or Lenovo.
If I decide to sell my Mac rather than give to a family member I will list on UHH.

Maybe spend some time reviewing professional laptop reviews to get an unbiased opinion, since human nature is to recommend what we own. It’s called “self-validation.” Cheers!

Hello all,

I'm off to Iceland in a few weeks. I was wondering from anyone who has gone in the past, what focal length they found most useful. I realize much has to do with your subject matter and style of photography, but in your opinion what's the widest and longest focal length actually needed for mostly landscapes. Let's not worry about puffins and whale watching, since I realize that's longer focal lengths, but I'm speaking mostly for landscapes.

I know I'm taking a 24-120. I'm likely taking a 20mm prime. I'd deciding between a 50mm prime or a 70-300.
I'm not sure I have room in the bag for both. I'm taking 2 camera bodies as well. I'm trying to keep the weight down somewhat.

You answered your own questions Mike…Have fun!!!!
thanks
Mike

I have a Canon 5D Mark ii with the 24-105L lens and wonder if it makes sense to get a 2X extender for my trip to Spain. I also have an older Canon 75-300 lens but don't want to carry both. Concerned about quality with the extender and also whether a good one exists that fits my camera. (Thanks, Canon...) Also considered a used Canon 55-200, but Rockwell said that my camera couldn't handle the color problems.
Appreciate your help and snark,
Bill from Somerville MA (long time lurker)

Firstly,I’m not sure that Mr. Rockwell is the guy I would take advice from. If you don’t want to take the larger lens…don’t. I often travel with a 23MM Fuji X100 series and once in awhile for unique locales such as a safari a larger lens mounted to a mirrorless camera (helps keep the weight and bulk down). But, that’s me, your needs may be much different. So maybe chose what you need over what I need? Have fun!!!
A Tesla owner said he would never buy another Tesla, but he changed his mind and saved $12,000. He took advantage of a temporary offer to get the $12,000 software for free. Yes, $12,000 for software to make the car complete.

[i]"The reason I bought it this month was to take advantage of a temporary offer to transfer my so-called Full Self Driving (FSD) software from my old Tesla to the new one without having to pay $12,000 or $200 a month for the software. I’ll save the reason for my confession till I’m done reviewing the new car and the latest version of Tesla’s FSD software."[i/]

I wouldn't buy an EV for the fire risk alone. EVs average only sixteen fires a year, which is much lower that the fires in gas and diesel vehicles, at 3,384 annually. Of course, the number of EVs on the road is miniscule compared with internal combustion vehicles. The difference is that EV fires are spontaneous and very difficult to extinguish. I'm satisfied with 40+MPG from my Fit.
You hit it on the mark...the percentage of EVs exploding into a virtually untamable fire is far more than gas fueled vehicles when the total number of EVs vs. gas vehicles are compared. It's the same reason airlines prohibit those Lithium batteries from in-the-hold air travel.

When I crop a picture the end result is often soft and "grainy". I have a Sony A3000 with a 20MP sensor. I'm using a 18-55 MM lens. Indoor shots with or without a flash. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe take your camera off “auto,” add a bit of light, walk or zoom in with your lens, closer to the subject are the easiest and cheapest ways to enhance your presented photos.

Several of the top people at Boeing have been "let go," and it's rumored that a woman will replace Calhoun as the CEO. Mr. Calhoun will be out of a job by the end of the year. I hope he can find a new job before he has to go on welfare. At least they gave him nine months to get himself ready for a lower standard of living. Maybe he'll start a GoFundMe to help him buy food and pay the rent until he finds a new job.

When you look at the number of changes in management Boeing has gone through in recent years, you have to wonder why they bother. All they are doing is making millionaires richer.

One of Boeing's largest customers is RyanAir. The head of the company said that when they receive a 737, they have to spend a couple of days examining it and removing tools and replacing missing parts.

"Calhoun's annual salary is about $1.4 million and his target annual bonus is about $17 million. 5 days ago."

Based on an eight-hour day, he's making about $9,000 an hour.

Another source says he made over $24 in 2023, for $12,000 an hour, not bad for a kid from Philadelphia.
