Open Menu
Hit camera icon with dotted line underneath
Hit Operations/Others (alternatively you can chose "clear all custom settings" instead of full camera reset)
Tap shutter icon
Hit AF
Hit AF on icon
Use any function you want except AF

This is for a 80D. I used to have a 6D and believe this is same procedure of similar.

Only full frame and only mirrorless and only Canon hardware…he's gone on and on about that and how superior that combination makes one and how you're not a real photographer if you don't have all of that. He ignores the fact that for some people a DX or even a M4/3 is a better option…and it's been quite clear that he looks down on any 'amateur' that uses anything less than what he states unequivocally is "better". Sounds like bragging to me.

And it's really a shame because he's actually obviously a really smart guy and asks good questions to amplify needs in response to questions…but the elitist attitude can tend to turn people off. Sarcasm is a nice change of pace sometimes…and the advantages of full frame or mirrorless are true…for some situations but not all…and all his Canon pushing doesn't make them better, just better for him and in his opinion. Brand of equipment is irrelevant to making a good photo…there's a guy on another forum who espouses the 80/4 rule…80% of a good photo comes from 4 inches behind the viewfinder…and the remaining 20% is readily achievable by even consumer level crop sensor hardware from any of the vendors. Brand bashing gets nobody anywhere.

Seriously?!?!? And yet he recommends that the OP hang onto his crop sensor Nikon. You just don"t ge it do?

Nice. My wife and and I will visit in May as part of a river cruise throughout Belgium and The Netherlands. What month were you there? It looks a little chilly.

Is there anyone else who purchased one of these? It has a nice HD camera built into it, and I thought I could get some unusual shots I'd like to have. I was able to get the drone powered up, one time, complete with two headlights, and I got it to fly, here in my den. So I grabbed it before it hurt itself. Could not get it started again. And even then, I just kept pressing buttons to get it powered up. The instructions are so utterly vague, it doesn't even tell how to power up the drone.

I'm hoping the answer is 'yes', so I'm asking: Is there anyone else here who has purchased a Quadcopter Drone?

Like most anything, you get what you pay for. You will not get much for $99 so see if you can get your money back. A decent drone will set you back at least a few hundred dollars. The DJI "Mini" series is an excellent choice for a beginner. Explore YouTube where there is a wealth of information. Go to the drone section here at UHH for some good advice from drone enthusiasts. Make sure you are aware of all federal and local regulations.

I have a DJI Mini 2. The FAA says "visual line of sight" even means being able to see what direction it is pointing! So in my case, it is about the same 100 feet to be fully legal. It can stretch to more if I allow myself to be "marginally legal".

My personal rules are the same for everything else I do. I do what I can to not bother people or put them at risk. That said, I'm 75 years old and still drive on the public's roads in 12,000 pound motorhome! Everything in perspective! Right?

Things changed a little bit last year. As always, the FAA owns all the airspace. New last year is the FAA requirement to have at least one of two FAA issued certificates. For recreational drone use, you can use the easy and free "TRUST" certificate. It takes about 20 minutes online and does a good job of outlining how to be legally "DISCRETE".

https://www.faa.gov/uas/recreational_fliers/knowledge_test_updates/

I took the TRUST Certificate test the other day. One of the FFA "rules" is that you must maintain visual contact with your drone at all times. Well, my little drone disappears from view after about 100 feet. So if you take this rule literally I guess no drome flying is allowed at all unless you have a really really big one! Your right. The answer is be "DESCTETE".

I've been an airplane pilot and photographer most of my life. I now have a Mini 2 as one of my cameras. I spent a couple of the winter covid months learning the UAV system and now have both FAA certificates.

What sort of suggestions are you looking for? Naples is a big area. I'm attaching clips of the sectional and clearance grid for that area. To operate a drone in the grid you use the "LAANCE" app on a phone to get clearance.

How can I help?

Thanks for your reply. I'm in North Naples for half the year. I have no need or interest in flying my drone in controlled airspace and know not to fly above 400 feet in uncontrolled airspace. My confusion is with other rules. There are federal FAA rules but also state and local rules which can be more restrictive. For example I am very close to North Naples Community Park (uncontrolled airspace) which has several wide open soccer fields that are empty most of the time. I've flown there a few time but then I saw a sign with a list of rules that includes "No Drones Allowed". I'm looking for a fairly wide open area where I can fly without fear of stepping on anybody's toes.

I have developed an interest in drone photography and just purchases a DJI Mini 2. I'm still trying to get through local rules and regulations and am looking for safe and legal places to fly in the Naples Florida area. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Exactly!! New gear is cool. If you really want it and can afford it, get it. Life is short. Enjoy.

DrJoeS possibly what you're not understanding is that the lion's share of commercial photographers only work under contract. Deliverables, Fees, Usage (market and duration limitations), etc are negotiated, agreed upon and accepted before any work is done. The only real issues are when the terms specified in the contract are not honored...
Only then are civil actions even considered.

Yes I've had imagery "borrowed" without my consent... So what? I could care less...
I have bills to pay thus I'm totally focused on meeting and exceeding the expectations what few client I still have have left.

What concerns me here is why would a PhD psychologist broach a query with a potential of raising paranoia and thus cortisol levels DrJoeS? While you may be entitled to claim the title of "Doctor" in an academic scenario in my humble estimation you fall just a tad short of what might be expected from a Licensed Board Certified Medical Doctor. To this end I'm simply going to address you as JoeS moving forward...

So JoeS are you aware that many across our country are now living in a society that currently is under considerable duress... Meaning the sympathetic nervous system is hyperactive... Maybe engaging your UHH audience's parasympathetic nervous system might be more germane and appropriate at this juncture... How about some serene tranquil imagery from Tampa Bay, FL.

Oh, the cornerstone of paranoid schizophrenia treatment, are antipsychotic medications which are some of the most commonly prescribed drugs. They're thought to control symptoms by affecting the brain neurotransmitter dopamine. Maybe consider reviewing dissertations on the aforementioned JoeS... Albeit in a clinical scenario I've noticed that Haloperidol (Haldol) is widely deployed...

All the best on your journey JoeS...

Many people don't "get" CHG_CANON. I believe his waxing eloquent over the virtues of Canon or Mirrorless vs DSLR are intended to point out how stupid these discussions are. He owns Canon and Sony and is still using a DSLR. He's made many positive comments about Nikon and other brands in SERIOUS photography discussions. He is also a damn good photographer.

Lighten up, people!!
