Saturn crosses the center of the Milky Way. Taken June 4th, 2017. 10 second stacked exposure, ISO 6400. Saturn is overexposed to pick up the much fainter stars in the Milky Way.

Yeah, I thought when I bought that setup a year ago that it would suffice, but I've rapidly learned that its not what I need to do the type of astrophotography I want to do. I was looking at a triplet - way expensive, then started looking at some Explore Scientific doublets. Even with the triplets I found out that you still get some chromatic aberration, so the extra expense to me just didn't seem worth it. I also started looking at the Celestron Edge HD SCT scopes, I think I may go that direction with a 8 inch on an AVX mount for awhile. Each scope type seems to have its advantages/disadvantages depending on whether you're shooting lunar/planetary or DSO's. The SCT seems to be the most flexible option and affordable. Portability is also a concern.

This is an image I shot of the "Strawberry" Moon back in June.
Astrophotography is a big part of what I like to do, so a number of different processing steps were involved to get this image.

I have one issue with this image that I cant seem to resolve because I deleted my original images that were stacked to create this one image.

If you zoom in, you will see a white "ring" around the moon, especially around the left side. I cant seem to get rid of this. So I'm going to post my "finished" jpg image of the moon as well as png file that was used to make it. If someone here knows how to edit & remove that white ring I would really love to get a corrected copy of the tif or the png file, the tif file is too large to upload.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

This is my first post here, so I thought I would post a few photos I took during July 4th. These were shot with a Nikon D5300, Nikon 55-300mm Zoom Lens, ISO 100, exposure time 1-4 seconds. I was about a mile away from where the display was. Comments on these are very much welcome as I'm looking to improve my skills.
