The Adobe Photographers Plan has reaped huge profits for Adobe (making a profit is what businesses are supposed to do) and gives better service to the customers in the form of real timrbtyñ. Customer costs are about the same as buying paid uldates.

What is not to like?

Anytime I’m forced to pay for a plan that “has reaped huge profits” for the company, I no longer feel that customer satisfaction, better product development, and outstanding customer service are the primary interest of that company. I’m now forced to buy subscriptions for my anti-virus software and Office software so I just hate being forced to pay a subscription to support a hobby. If I was a professional, I’d have to pay the ransom, but could write off the expense. As an amateur I can find better priced alternatives that meet my needs.

Just my very limited experience: I saw them advertise the camera I bought for $200 dollars cheaper than anywhere else. I was very excited! I checked all the Abe’s of Maine reviews noting the “bait and switch” about grey market cameras and then the call to the potential customer about paying extra for the USA model. So, I made a list of questions to ask and called them. The sales rep said that for the model with the USA charger would in fact cost an additional $100 dollars. This was still $100 dollars cheaper than anywhere else. I was disappointed and decided the ads were somewhat misleading so I thanked the sales rep and hung up.
I called B&H, got my camera free shipping no sales tax, got a free SD card, and the camera arrived ahead of schedule.
So now, I stick to B&H, Adorama or KEH. I despise paying the governor so try to avoid Amazon, which now charges sales tax. YMMV.

This forum reminds me a bit of weekly department meetings. One or two responses on maybe one or two agenda items might be worth my much-too-short attention. I typically just quietly sip my coffee and write down a note or two for later.

Even a struggling amateur working to develop his/her artistic vision can instantly appreciate the look and feel of a well balanced, quality camera with a big bright viewfinder or EVF with a beautiful sharp high quality lens mounted. As a total amateur pianist I vividly remember how I felt playing a Bosendorfer concert grand. I’ll never forget that experience even though I will never be able to play at the level to ever deserve owning that instrument. I know buying a 5D MkIV won’t improve my photographic skills one iota, but would I love to have it with some EF L lenses? Absolutely!!!! Of course!!! Why the heck not!!!! I’m certainly not ready to commit the funds necessary for that purchase and all the other upgrades required yet, but maybe someday and I’ll be practicing and improving my technique, skill level and developing my artistic vision in the meantime.

There was a post here about the relative advantages of the Nikon D500 (a near $2000 Pro dig cam) vs. the D7500 (a $1250) dig cam. It seems the decisive factor is the lack of a Fully Auto Mode on the former. Isn't the Program mode - near enough - Fully Auto? ... In fact, it's better - as you can still master ISO (which you don't get to do on Fully Auto) PLUS any refinements you make in Creative Mode - vis a vis - Brilliance, Sharpness, Saturation, Contrast - all applicable only to JPEGS, but, which are overlooked in Fully Auto - are maintained. Right?

What Mode on YOUR DSLR - is your favorite?
There was a post here about the relative advantage... (show quote)

Aperature Priority is my favorite. I’ve occasionally used Av with Auto ISO for low light or changing light situations, which essentially is Program Mode, so thanks for the reminder. In fact it’s a bit faster to change the mode dial than hit the ISO button and roll the quick dial to Auto.

Since I’m still learning I only download approximately 20% of what I shoot. I typically delete 60% of those and then might post process 1 or 2 of the final cut. Even with a crop sensor, because I still shoot RAW and jpeg, it takes a lot of space to store and manage those files. I keep most everything of family shots and I do far less deleting of vacation/bucket list shots.
In the past twenty years, I’ve never wished I didn’t delete that less than primo shot.

Unfortunately for me, as I get older I have to slightly lower the resolution on my computer and laptop. I have to slightly enlarge the text and icons on my phone. I use a mono vision RGP correction lens over my corneal transplant left eye so I can easily see the controls on my camera or my dashboard. So 8K video just doesn’t make my blood run hot. Maybe I’m a small minority in the US and with the resolution race for cameras, videos and TVs it seems buyers are willing to throw down hard cash or God forbid run up their credit cards to buy the latest gear. I’m past that and being retired it’s a good thing.

I had to upgrade and am still upgrading to accommodate the large increase in size of my RAW images and that’s just for a 24 MP crop. Shoot, I’d have to consider going back to work to fund all the upgrades in PP software, storage, lenses, laptops, external storage, and SD and CF cards. I’ll just quietly wait for the give away prices on the mere 50MP full frame cameras that can only do 4K video.

Mark it and keep an eye on it’s functionality. Use it as long as it works but always have other cards available if it fails. SD and CF cards and USB Flash drives are tough.

I’ve always loved the history channel. As I understand it, even if Hitler didn’t commit suicide, somehow escaped the bunker and somehow managed to slink to Argentina, he would be a trembling, sick from withdrawal, addled dying drug addict that couldn’t go more than a few hours without his custom drug cocktail shot into his veins by his physician. Any form of death short of being drawn and quartered was far too merciful for the Nazi authors of the “final solution” but the last films of Adolf Hitler show he was literally “the walking dead”.

CT, I apologize for interrupting your day with drivel, however, please notice that my opening has given others a chance to relate their thoughts and emotions when faced with having to send their camera, lens, flash or scanner out and away from their care and entrust it to total strangers that they have never seen. I fully understand that while most of us age gracefully and look forward to each new day that God has given us, there are some that cannot help but be sour on the world and take their sourness out on everyone they meet.

I Do hope you have a day filled with the blessings of God and you see great visions through your viewfinder all weekend.

Dave.

Dave - you are a generous, thoughtful OP and I for one am glad you posted. Guitarists fret (stupid pun I know) when their favorite guitar is being repaired, pianists are exceptionally picky about who tunes, regulates, and voices their instrument, and so photographers are at a loss when their favorite camera is on its way for repair.
Best of luck! It won’t be long.

I cut my photography teeth on a Yashica 35mm SLR wIth Aperature Priority, so it’s comfortable. I want to use the best aperture for my subjects and if I can I try to use my lens’ best aperature setting. If the light changes rapidly, I’ll use Auto ISO.

Am I the only one who remembers the stupid ads in “Men’s Magazines” with some version of a title on “How to Seduce Women by........” which of course every reader over the age of 10 knew was a load of horse crap. The kids under 10 of course were reading Daddy’s Playboy or Hustler.
If some idiot wants to waste their money, who am I to stop them? They’re probably the same sh*theads that ordered the “blackhead” removal tool. Banning books? Seriously?????

I remember recently that Verizon commercial where the wedding was being videotaped by a member of the wedding party on his cellphone with no 4LTE coverage. I’m pretty horrified at wedding pricing for the gowns, tuxes, the cake, the reception, the flowers, the invitations, so I guess many couples run out of funds by the time they hire a photographer. I just hope the unprepared, hideously non-Pro photographers in street clothes didn’t charge much.
