are you saying that a person with an iPhone 8 should experience the changes brought by iOS 13 before upgrading to an iPhone 11?

The cameras on the 11 are big improvements over the 8. But the new editing capabilities in iOS 13 allow for a lot of enhancements on the older phones, especially in poorer lighting conditions. iOS 13 does not bring the older camera up to the functionality of 11's, but for some it may be enough to not worry about upgrading this year.

The more serious you are about picture capabilities, however, will certainly make you want to move to the 11.

My wife tells me I will just have to make do with my XR this year and she is happy with her 8+. So I will just have to be happy with iOS 13. ; )

I have an 8 right now, and it’s a big upgrade from the 5 you have. That said, I’m going to get the 11pro...mostly to replace an aging iPad mini4, but also because I use my phone quite a bit for mobile databases that involve taking 100’s of photos at a site to catalog signage conditions. Often times those images are taken in subpar lit construction areas. The 11pro should excel in those conditions. I also find it helpful to use SnapSeed to edit photos too on my phone, albeit it looks like the 11 pro has better editing capabilities over the 11.

The photo editing options in iOS 13 will make a huge difference for you! I have been using 13 since the first beta on my XR and iPP 11. I was sold on 13 just with the photo app enhancements!

I'm in your age group (71) and absolutely love the capabilities of my iPhone XR. The just coming out 11 is great successor to the XR and the photo editing abilities in iOS 13 are remarkable. I've been beta testing 13 since beta and I'm now on 13.1.

Since currently have the 5c the new iOS will be very familiar and the difference camera capabilities will blow you away.

When the opportunity presents itself I take either my Canon or Pentax DSLRs. But the iPhone is great when I don't the "full size" guys!

Totally depends on what I am shooting. I also wonder if folks mean FULL manual, i.e. focus, shutter, aperture, iso, or auto-focus and a combination of the other components.

The 5700 had a 7 meg sensor. Are all your 5700 pictures at reduced resolution?
