Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100II is a 100 ISO B@W film known for its fine grain and high detail. Fujifilm website calls Acros II the "highest standard in grain quality among all other 100 ISO films". This film is a Orthopanchromatic film unlike the more popular panchromatic B@W film known in the industry. This type of emulsion allows Acros II to be more sensitive to colors.

Acros II is the successor to Neopan Acros and part of the Neopan line of films offered by Fujifilm dating back to 1952 with the original Neopan 100SS film. Other films in the Neopan line included Neopan 400 Professional, Neopan 1600 and Neopan 400CN. Of all the film in the Neopan family, Acros was the last to survive and on April 6, 2018, Fujifilm filed a press release announcing the termination of Acros film due to "decreased sales".

For whatever reason, in the Spring of 2019, Fujifilm announced that Neopan Acros was coming back on the market with a new emulsion formula making Neopan Acros bigger and better. My guess is that film photographers who shot Neopan Acros complained enough to Fujifilm they decided to bring it back. Nevertheless, on November 22, 2019, Neopan Acros 100II was released to the Japan and United States markets for the first time. One interesting note, the box containing Acros 100II states "Made IN UK". Probably by Ilford since they are a film manufacture in the United Kingdom.

According to Analog.Cafe (published on 5-18-22), Neopan Acros 100II with its new emulsion allows 9 stops of dynamic range along with its fine grain and high detail.

Attached are several images of Neopan Acros 100II I took over the last several weeks. I can honestly say I like the look of this film and will be using it again. All images were taken with a Nikon FE2 and various vintage lenses.

I hope all Y'all in this Film Subsection of UHH have a wonderful Christmas, a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Jim.

Beautiful work. I like the last one the best with the sun just coming up over the horizon.

It's hard to say. Some film gets more grainy when very over exposed, others you need to really underexpose for grain. Of the problem images, the details look over exposed, but the grain structure looks underexposed, like not enough light hit the film. But, some others that seem perfect also seem like bright situations. Keep us posted if you find a rhyme or reason.

Will do. I appreciate the helpful advice. This film was shot at box speed. I have only been shooting film for a little over a year. I thought I would try numerous types of film from different manufactures to be able to find the right kind of film I like. The camera I used, according to my notes, has had to rolls shot with it (HP5 and Portra 800). Neither one of these rolls of film showed so much grain in the image. Jim.

Thanks Paul. I may go one stop both ways and see how it looks. I was using a Nikon F3. Maybe that was my problem, should have been shooting a Canon film camera.

How Y'all. Trying to learn film photography. Saw a guy on YouTube shooting Fomapan film. His images looked pretty good, so I bought a roll of 35mm. Fomapan 100 is a black and white 100 ISO film manufactured in the Czech Republic. According to the manufacture website, the film is high resolution, wide exposure latitude and fine grain. One thing I noticed, when you shoot Fomapan in direct, hard sun light, the images become very grainy. All shot with a vintage lens. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Jim

A storm was coming in so the race had to be postponed. Notice the grain in the pic. Direct sun coming down on the beach.

Back to racing. See how grainy this pic. is with direct sun light.

This was taken at the Biloxi Seafood festival this year. Indirect sun light seems to help the exposure of this film. Got some oysters on the grill.

How Y'all. Last St. Patrick Day, Biloxi had their annual parade. Not wanting to miss out on a good parade, I decided to take an old film camera and a roll of Kodak Portra 800 film. Here are a few of the pictures. I think the Portra 800 did a pretty good job. Shot with a Nikon F3 and a Nikon AIS 105mm f1.8 lens.

Thanks Paul. Both my film cameras have an EC dial. I’ll keep my film at box speed and use exposure compensation. Jim.

Great work Paul and thank you for helpful advice in this section. Can you explain the effects of pushing film and how it would affect the photograph. In the last year I have bought two film cameras and some vintage lenses. Trying to learn film photography. Jim.

Take a look at northcoastphoto.com. I have used them several times and am happy with their work. Paul who runs this section had recommended them in the past. He was not wrong. Jim.
