I didn't realize that there was any "honor" in using outdated equipment. I started in photography with an old Leica that my Dad gave me. He'd bought it in 1949. I've long since passed that to the personal museum...

Years ago I spent a lot of time in both - three months in Glacier and three months in Yosemite. I'd gladly go back for more, although the crowds are a lot bigger than they were in 1972 and 73. Spend as much time as you can, and find the places few people go to. I also spent a lot of time in Moab back in the 70's, living and working there for a while. There are still some places I know where there are few people, but so many others have been completely ruined.

There are books, and of course Lightroom Queen, but one of the best sources are on Creativelive.com. They have several courses, from the quick ones on files, catalogs and storage to much more in depth classes on Development and everything else Lightroom offers. The same goes for courses on Photoshop. And you can rerun and repeat lessons or parts of lessons as often as you need.

I guess I'm an old fart. I have both a D850 and Z6 mirrorless with a variety of lenses. The autofocus is always faster than the manual focus, so I guess I'm not overly concerened with fractions of a second.

I take my camera out every morning and evening while walking the dog, and often come back without ever taking a single shot. But when light and subject are rihgt I can take many shots. It all depends.

On the other hand my favorite trout streams are only a very short drive, and when the Fryingpan gets crowded I know another hundred places where I won't see a soul. And I'll have my camera in case there are no real fish opportunities (but its rare I come back without a few in hand...)

What everhappened to 5 and a half inch floppy disks????
I use two 1TB external hard drives for my photos, one as the main photo drive and one as the back up. I do regularly back up the drive on my computer as well to a third external hard drive (Mac Time Machine) so my Lightroom index files are saved. I'll start using the cloud through Adobe as well.

Nikon Z 24-200 f4-6.3. Not a classic lens, but the best all around lens I have. It stays on my Z6 and goes with me everywhere.

Sort of. I gave it to my dauhgter when we were planning to hit the road for a couple years in our RV. Then pandemic and Alzheimer's hit. It is a Lieca IIc that my Dad gave me in 1972. He's bought it in 1950. I used it for years with just the 50mm lens and got lots of nice pictures. The leather case got a dent in it when we ran a rapid in the Grand Canyon in 1972. It still works fine, but I'll need to re-learn the exposures without a light meter.

Thanks for sharing this. I use aperature priority mode all the time, unless the scene becomes too dark, and I learned a few things here!

I just sling my camera and lens over my head and diagonaly across my body, from the right shoulder to my left side. Easy and cheap. I also am constantly aware of where my camera and lens are.

Those are my thoughts as well. I also want to know if a cell phone can take anything other than a PDF. I know Apple has a "raw" file format, but I haven't seen much on it. You'd need a pretty big memory chip in the i-phone.

I still use a DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The post processing is the main reason, and I just like them and the variety of lenses a LOT better than a simple cell phone. My guess is most people use their cell phones because thats all they have and they really aren't that serious about photography. While I know serious photographers who use their cell phones occasionally, I don't know any who go out on a serious shoot without a DSLR.

While I love B&H, I have a similar complaint about FedEx. I live in the mountains of western Colorado and while FedEx does an OK job given what they have I greatly prefer UPS. And I've told B&H about that.
