If you haven’t already, try mounting a different lens and see if the problem persists. I just sent a lightly used Tamron lens in for warranty repair which was behaving somewhat the same. If I removed then remounted the lens, it would work for a short time ( less than a minute) than stop focusing. But it was only this one lens. Manufacturer said it was probably the lens’s autofocus motor going bad. jak

I tried a different lens and it worked perfectly. Also I cleaned the lens I was having the problem with and it seems to have resolved the problem. I appreciate your reply, thanks!

Only place outside of Nikon in NYC I have ever trusted & used is Southern Photo in Miami Beach. UPI, API, AFP send their stuff there 305.653.7355 is phone number... Been in business for ages, https://www.sp-ts.com/ Baswed on what you describe to them, they will provide a ball park estimate. Once they get the camera, they call & describe the specific issue & fix...Usually back in about 2 weeks

Very good to know. I will check them out if I need to go out. Thanks for the info. I really appreciate your reply!

If you live in Central Texas you are probably aware of Precision Camera in Austin. Good & knowledgeable people. Might ck with them.

Yes I know of them. I will give them a call on Monday. Thanks much. Appreciate it!

Clean the "lens" contacts might work. Not enough info?¿

I cleaned the contacts with a soft cloth as you recommended, as I ran out of contact cleaner, and it seems to be focusing better in my house tonight. I will try it outside tomorrow and report back to both of you. Thank you for your suggestion!

What does "goes astray" mean? What does "work again" mean? What lens is involved? Does the problem occur with all lenses in the same way?

Is the camera inside a 1-year warranty from Nikon? Nikon has a telephone number for customer service - (800) 645-6687.

The D5600 will auto focus for a few times and then it no longer auto focus. Off and on several times may make it auto focus then finally it does. The view through the viewfinder looks like photo bokeh but does not attempt to focus.
I haven't tried to manually focus.

My sister has a D5600 that has excellent auto focus that goes astray and requires turning the camera off several times to get it to work again. Any suggestions for a reasonable repair shop? I am in central Texas (Austin area) but if no repair shop is nearby then we can send it out.

UKBillyboy - You don't need to respond to every post to your question, but to not check back at all is pretty inconsiderate.

I have been offline because of a medical issue. Please accept my sincere apology for not replying to the many Hogs who were trying to help me. As the time of this note I have found all of my watermarks, which I incorrectly said was my copyrights on my original note. Thank you and I apologize again!

You probably mean an export watermark? Look at your LR export definitions, do you have the watermark option selected? Do you have a watermark defined? You may have to redo this set-up of they've been lost during version or computer migrations.

I have had the watermark option selected and had defined them for 4 years by year. Thanks for your reply. The exported photo is an example of the watermark.

I'm really sorry I haven't responded to the many people who have tried to help. I've had a medical issue. First of all after reading your replies my problem is that saved watermarks have disappeared. I had watermarks saved for the last 4 years by year and after a Lightroom update and a problem opening Lightroom, they were all missing. It seems I will have to go through the process of creating new ones. If anyone has ideas since I haven't clarified that they are not missing copyrights I will appreciate it.

I had copyrights saved for the last 4 years, but when I tried to export a photo my copyrights were nowhere to be found. I have Lightroom Classic 10.1 and only one catalog that I backup alternatively between my Windows 10 PC and a USB external drive. I opened the last two backups and no saved copyrights? Anyone have any idea where to look or how to restore them?

I avoid the problem by not directly importing from the SD chip into LR. I copy them into a file on my computer first and import them from there. I have full control that way.

I do it that way also. First copy the images and paste them into an existing folder or one you've created where you want them to go in file explorer on your computer. Then in LR import the images from that folder where you copied them. The folder will show up in the left panel of LR after you click import.
