Aside from both being CRAP-period. In 25 years of computer consulting I thank both Norton and McAfee for many dollars paid to me to correct their single use problems, antivirus programs run together cause conflicts.
Horrible programs both.
In fact, if you are running Windows 10, Windows Defender is already included and the best defense against viruses. Then for other Malware like spyware, and others, the best defense is the paid, realiime version of Malwarebytes from the Malwarebytes web site.
To clean up cache files, and other garbage, use CCleaner from Piriform software site.
All other download sites are conflicted and load more garbage than they clean. Spyware comes from the routine software download sites. McAfee particularly is rampant with frequent bad updates.
So, my referrals on this are the Microsoft Essentials.... MSSE for Windows 7 and older and Windows Defendor provided with 10, and Malwayebytes and CCleaner. No conflicts among those three.

He is completely right about McAfee and Norton. I have had several people bring me their system and the only problem was that one of these were installed. I must say that he is also right about Malwarebytes and CCleaner (used to be “Crap Cleaner” back in the day). Those are the only 2 programs that I put on a new build or if someone one has me clean a system. I use the Microsoft antivirus as I have never had a problem with this and everyone loves the price. This serves very well. I’ve been an IT Manager for years and I have never had a problem. Good luck. ~Mike
