Nice job on the pictures Cindy.I believe that the black-headed gulls are actually Franklin's gulls.Franklin's gulls have black legs and the black-headed legs are pink. There's also more black on the Franklin's gull.

Are you serious? Is that the known reason? Seems odd. Did the cat population explode after 1966?

I'm in CA and we have several endangered indigenous bird species but I've only heard that Cats are generally a problem when introduced to islands. I can't image there are more feral and stray cats in NY than CA with our much more even weather. And in fact in city areas we are nearly over run with feral cats. Though dogs, and wildlife keep some of them in check. The loss of birds here is due to loss of habitat, often wetlands and woodlands being converted to human homes! Coastal Sage Scrub and Chaparral are a bit more abundant still but also in decline.

P.S. I found this https://www.allaboutbirds.org/declining-numbers-of-cerulean-warblers/

I was on a tour through the Tetons and Yellowstone this past October with Eco tour adventures and they were great. They are based in Jackson and their guides are knowledgeable in all aspects of the parks.

Save up and go for a Wimberley and you won't be disappointed.I purchased a nest three years ago and had a great deal of trouble with it.

I use that lens with a 7d and 1x4 converter and it works great for bird photography. And it is easily carried around for extended periods.

Choose photos from an album or event.
At the bottom right choose book.
Choose a theme by clicking arrows. Then click create.
On the left under projects you will find your book at the bottom.
You can add photos or remove them from the book here.
Click on the book to open it up and a layout in thumbnails will appear.
Select photos at bottom right and all the photos in the book should be there.
Then double click on a thumbnail page to enlarge it.
You can now drag photos to your selected page from the collection on the right.
Good luck I hope this is helpful.

The Manfrotto was a good purchase for the money, less than two hundred dollars. However it will not lock in the horizontal position. So I then purchased a nest which worked great until it got cold outside. It became very difficult to rotate and was useless in cold weather. It also leaked a very sticky gel out while being stored in my closet, that ruined a pair of my gloves and was difficult to clean up.So I then purchased a Whimberly 200 and wish that I had purchased it in the first place. It is with out a doubt the best one that I have seen and worth the money if you can afford it.

Here is a photo taken from about 150 ft. away.I shot this the day I received my 500f/4 ll.I attached a 2xlll converter to it to see what it was capable of.The setup was on a tripod and a remote release was used. The photo was cropped and sharpened in iPhoto.I was satisfied with the result and believe that with good technique and practice you can get good images with it.However it may be best to start out with a 1x4 as your keeper rate will be much higher.

I own a 7d and a 7dll and both cameras have completely detached from the lens while hiking.I use them with a 300f/4 and 1x4 extender attached to a shoulder strap. Both cameras have separated from the converter and it doesn't matter which shoulder that I carry it on.The pin on the camera and converter appear to work properly as everything locks together when assembling. They have also separated while being transported in the trunk of my car.I have two 1x4 extenders and haven't been able to isolate one as being the problem. It bewilders me that somehow the button gets depressed and the lens twists to the point of separation, all while I'm aware that it may occur. So far it hasn't happened this year, maybe because I am now in the habit of checking it every few minutes while hiking.I'm probably inadvertently touching the button while walking but what can explain it separating in the trunk of the car.So I do agree that there may be an issue with the mount.

I have a Vivitar Deluxe Power Grip new in the box.It came as part of a kit for my 7d when I purchased about three years ago.I never felt a need for it because the battery in the camera lasts me all day with no problem. However it will take AA batteries if a charger is not available.I don't know what it is worth but you are welcome to it if you pay the shipping cost.
