Tri-State has one advantage over some of the other shady side dealers if you're very, very careful. They sell on eBay. Buy from them only via eBay and pay with PayPal, then grab the after-market warranty if it's much of a purchase. Also, make sure you've read the entire listing. The same goes for 6th Avenue on Amazon. Make sure you give the product a good shakedown as soon as you receive it and start the return process immediately if there's any problem. Or, as everybody else said, just avoid them. I would add a few others to the list of reliable... MPB, Roberts/used photo pros, and KEH for used equipment.

Why patronize “shady” dealers at all? More than a few reputable dealerships available.

Thanks for the heads up.......stay far, far away. B&H Adorama... Looking for my first point and shoot pocket camera. I'll check out Abe's for a G9 X mark ii

Before considering Abe’s of Maine - check reviews on them as well. Or simply stick with the major reputable dealers like B&H, Adorama, Roberts. If you also wanted to see what’s available on the used market, add KEH and MPB to the list.

Any info on this location will be highly appreciated for sure. Never heard of this location, new to the business or just another bait and switch joint?
Anyone with dealings please leave a comment about this shop. Looking to purchase the Canon G9 X mark ii.

Thanks to all....

When “camera dealer” and “Brooklyn, NY” are mentioned in the same breath - avoidance is the best recommendation. Just check out their less than sterling reviews. There are many reputable dealers including B&H, Adorama, Roberts etc. where you can purchase Canon cameras - is a supposedly lower price attracting you? Camera retail prices are set by the manufacturer - reputable, authorized dealers are required to stick to those prices.

Unless they have problem making the camera limit the number of cameras made they would lose money. The high prices go to the Ebay resellers not them.

And these ripoff artists get excessive prices because some people are stupid enough to pay them

Isn’t it a 23mm?

Yes - the actual lens focal length of the lens is 23mm. Coupling that the crop sensor it provides a field of view akin to what a 35mm lens provides on a full frame camera. For that reason the camera is generally represented as having a 35mm “equivalent” lens.

I curious to what you people think. I'm forming an opinion and I'm wondering if I'm on the right track.

Just looked him up on YouTube and watched this tutorial on depth of field - my opinion - lackluster. The only thing he talked about is shooting at either f/16 or f/2.8 (as if aperture was the sole determinant) leaving out any detail about where point of focus needs to be (for deep depth of field photos) and the effect that camera to subject distance has on depth of field. A newcomer to photography would be getting less than half the story from this tutorial. Perhaps his courses are better but I’ve seen other tutorials offered (for free) on the topic that do a much better job at really explaining the topic.

Try exporting a full size JPEG from your editor to your desktop. Check the size. it should be somewhere in the 8-12 MP range (just a guess) . Try send in it as an attachment to an email
Also on a Mac, you normally have a choice in the email program as to weather photos are "Actual size" or smaller more compressed sizes.
I suspect all email programs have something like that but cannot help with windows

I think you’re confusing MP and MB. A full size JPEG might be 24MP (megapixels) which is the resolution but the file would likely be around 8-10MB (megabytes) which is the file size.

Refurbed by Nikon. At least that's my understanding!

If you do decide to purchase just be sure you are getting a Nikon USA version. Third party sources that are not Nikon authorized dealers sell import or so-called Gray Market versions - if you need repair service on such, Nikon will not do the repair even if you are willing to pay out of pocket.

I received this today. Sale goes on for 4 days. So if you have been thinking of this....

Other refurbished items are also available. I chose this for impact.

Note: I have purchased Nikon Refurbished products in the past and they are like new!
.
Are these refurbs being sold directly by Nikon USA (as in the refurbishing was done by Nikon) or some non-authorized dealer? If the former they should come with a 90 day warranty from Nikon USA. If the latter you might not be able to get any needed service done by Nikon down the road.

Hi my friends - I've been absent from the site for a few months trying to get my head around all of this AI stuff. Maybe I'm just getting old (I am) but it is truly frightening. From a photography interest perspective I have been looking at 2 applications - one is called DALL-E and the other is Midjourney. Here's the scary part - I spent some time writing a prompt (you have to tell these AI machines what to do) - let's say you want a photograph - it can be just a regular one or an exiting one (say for a poster or an advertisement). The prompts can be what you need the photo to depict, the aspect ratio, camera model, lens, aperture, filter, shutter speed, weather, location - you can be as creative as you like. So from a prompt of about 50 words I got this image in a few seconds! If you are a graphic designer (for example) you've just saved yourself a bunch of time and brainpower. I read today that images of people created by AI cannot be distinguished from real photographs.......

Exactly how does this rise to the level of “truly frightening?” What negative impact does such imaging have on either you personally or anyone else’s preference for more traditional image capture?

A friend and fellow photographer took a picture of a farmer tilling his field while sitting inside his John Deere. Just one of many environmental shots. The tractor was a ways off with the field in the foreground. He sold it to a magazine that targeted the agriculture industry.

The farmer said that was him and his tractor and he sued for using his likeness without permission or compensation. The magazine settled. Fortunately for my friend, the magazine’s lawyer included him in the settlement.

The magazine may well have chosen to "settle" as less costly than going to court (usually referred to as nuisance value settlements) - that oftentimes happens - doesn't indicate that the farmer was in the right on the basis of law. Some other factors that might be at play here is if the photographer was on public property in shooting the photo or if he was actually on the farmer's land. Possibly also the issue of "expectation of privacy" was a factor - maybe the farmer alleged that since he was inside of his tractor he had some expectation of privacy?

There was a case I read about in NY - a man was walking down the street and he was wearing clothing in the style associated with Hassidic Jewish men (and he was fairly prominent in the overall composition.) The photographer displayed the photo in a gallery showing of his work as well as planning to include the photo in a coffee table book he was in the process of publishing. The gentlemen in the photo went to court to try to get the photo taken down - and also not to be published claiming that he had not given his permission to be photographed and I believe he also said something about how the photograph violated his religious rights (not sure of the details on that part) - His suit was dismissed by the court as having no legal merit.

Having said all of that - my personal view (which has nothing at all to do with what is legal) is that photos taken of people without their permission - especially in cases where they are the obvious and prominent reason for the composition (the sorts of photos often associated with Bruce Gilden and his followers) - should generally not be used if objected to - that's called being a decent person with empathy and respect for others. Maybe legal to do something but that doesn't mean you "should" do it.

It really doesn’t matter much what the ordnance says, try using a photo of anyone without a model release. You might get away with it for a public news event, but just about anything else that earns you money is risky.

In the United States, it’s not “risky” as long as the image is not being used for commercial use. Has nothing to do with making money on the photo. You could sell a print of the photo in an art gallery or on-line, or include it in a book you intend to sell. Such uses have been challenged many times in court so the legal precedents here are very well established.

The only restriction for photographers taking photos of people in a public place is those photos can't be used, for profit, without having the subject sign a release.

That’s not completely true (at least in the United States) - photos cannot be used for “commercial purposes” - like endorsements for products, without a model release. Photos of people in public places can be sold, obviously to make money, for artistic or editorial use. For example, prints sold on-line, or in a gallery, or in a published book, magazine, etc. Profit is not the determinant, it’s the specific use of the photo that defines the need for a model release.

Silly article. The function dial presentation/discussion is "Nikon-Centric". Canon and Pentax both use mostly the same terms, i.e. Tv, Av, Sv, M, P. Pentax, Ricoh, Leica, and Hasselblad all have DNG as a alternate RAW format in-camera. "F2.8" or "f/2.8"? ISO or ASA/DIN? So whose are right or best to be adopted, Adobe, Canon, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Sony? Most Photo terms are not silly, they come from the history of photography. If having to know a few arcane Photography terms bothers you, be glad that you are not a Chemist, Biologist, Physicist, Engineering, or in the fields of Medicine. Over the years I have been involved with Chemistry, Biology, and Photography, and Education. A lot of concepts and language involved!

Correct - a perfect example is the Citric Acid cycle, aka the Kreb’s Cycle aka the Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle. Photographic terminology is a walk in the park in comparison to the other fields you mentioned.
